Head of Tax

Job DescriptionFollowing significant growth in the business, there is an exciting new opportunity for a Head of Tax within the Finance department based in Manchester. The role will be to develop the Group's tax strategy, providing advice on acquisitions/projects and implementing a strong control framework whilst overseeing the tax function. You could be an experienced Head of Tax or Senior Tax Manager ready to join our growing business. What does the job involve?The key responsibilities of the role are as follows:Develop and implements the Group's tax strategyIdentifying tax planning opportunities for the Group, considering the operating structure, new legislation and projects and product launches with the businessAdvising on the tax implications for any potential acquisitions, including structuring advice and due diligenceProviding updates to the Finance director and CFO on the potential impact to the Group from changes to tax legislation and provide training to the business/finance department as requiredManaging the relationship with the tax advisersLiaising with HMRC on any tax enquiriesReviewing compliance, controls and reporting, ensuring the systems and processes are both effective and efficient covering, transfer pricing, VAT, corporation tax, payroll, P11ds, PSA and annual share reporting requirements to HMRC, EBT trust tax return, remuneration structuresIdentify, establish and maintain the necessary procedures and controls to comply with the SAO provisionsManagement & development of 1 direct staff member, including appraisals, target setting and monitoringCompetence, knowledge and skillsCompetenceACA/CTA qualified with at least 5 years PQEExperience of financial services preferableExperience of governance requirement of a plcExperience gained within accounting practice or a similar varied in-house tax roleExcellent working knowledge of UK tax legislationExcellent working knowledge of all aspects of VATExperience of working with HMRC approved and unapproved share schemes preferableExperience of drafting tax strategy/advising on projects and acquisitionsStaff management experienceKnowledge & SkillsExcellent verbal and written communicationPlanning, organisation and time management skill with ability to prioritiseAbility to work to tight reporting deadlinesCorporation tax computations and returnsVAT returns, including partial exemption calculationsPAYE and other employee-related returns for HMRC (P35, P11d)Strong IT skills including Microsoft ExcelLogical mindset; able to solve problemsDisciplined, methodical and rigorous combining 'eye for detail'Flexible and highly motivatedAbout us:AJ Bell is one of the fastest-growing investment platform businesses in the UK, with over 382,000 customers using our award-winning platform propositions to manage assets totalling more than 72.8 billion.
