At EY, our Financial Services Assurance Team is fully integrated, working across borders to help clients deal with issues that are critical to their success, and winning new business as a result.

The opportunity

Extended Assurance is part of our Financial Services Assurance practice and provides ongoing assurance to regulators, management and directors on the execution, governance and controls around processes not traditionally assessed within the financial statements. Current turbulent markets are driving significant changes to all firms’ internal processes and reporting requirements.

Your key responsibilities

  • You will be helping to build our team and support our clients in the provision of assurance and support services over sustainability/non-financial reporting, GHG emissions, climate change strategy and social and governance reporting metrics.
  • You will be leading key projects for our clients on a wide range of topics that we work on
  • You will create innovative commercial insights for our clients, supporting them in their journey to providing transparency to the market over their operations
  • You will work with project managers to lead teams, keeping a focus on identifying risks and escalating issues as appropriate
  • You will contribute to the development of EY capabilities in technical areas and engage with clients regarding the application of these methodologies to their businesses
  • You will collaborate with colleagues across our service lines, building a strong inclusive service offering

There is a significant demand across the market to obtain assurance and support the development of integrated ESG reporting, be that reporting in line with TCFD, the UN PRB or the issuance of green bonds under the ICMA principles to name a few. Institutions are increasingly disclosing their alignment to ESG and sustainability principles through both mandatory and voluntary reporting frameworks. We support our clients and their stakeholders, by building confidence and trust in the market through the provision of assurance services.

EY’s Financial Services Extended Assurance teamwork with clients to provide assurance that an organisation’s business activities are operating effectively in addressing these challenges. This is done through the appropriate use of assurance skills, robust audit and other methodologies coupled with industry insight in the Financial Services market.

As well as working within sustainable finance, you will have the opportunity to support key market developments, supporting our clients navigate their change management agenda from a governance, risk and control perspective.

As part of the Extended Assurance team, you will work on the execution of a variety of projects, including:

  • Sustainable Finance and ESG assurance
  • Internal Audit
  • Regulatory reviews
  • Process and controls
  • Financial remediation

You will work in complex multi-disciplinary teams, with responsibility for the overall execution of smaller projects and individual components of larger projects, under the guidance and direction of Managers, Directors and Partners.

Skills and attributes for success

  • We are looking for assurance professionals who have a strong background in Financial Services
  • You will use your expertise in assurance methodologies to perform engagements in compliance with the firm’s and industry standards
  • You will be flexible in your working style to encompass working both in the office, as well as client site and potentially travelling internationally
  • You should have experience of working in assurance, risk or controls projects either as an auditor or consultant
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a dynamic, demanding environment is essential
  • Individuals who can demonstrate intellect, drive and focus, and the ability to succeed at EY

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • External audit or internal controls/audit experience
  • Proven experience of working effectively in a team
  • Evidence of working in an assurance related role either in a professional services firm or in industry with a blue-chip employer
  • Industry specialism in Financial services, either in Banking & Capital Markets, Wealth & Asset Management, or Insurance
  • An understanding and passion to support clients make their business more sustainable in an ever-changing world where doing business is increasingly shaped by social purpose; climate change, effective governance and the creation of long term inclusive value.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Practical experience of regulatory topics including Prudential Reporting, Structural Reform; new internal audit innovation; and/or Business audit skills
  • Professional qualification ACA/ CA/ ACCA / US CPA qualified (ICAEW, ICAS, Irish Institute or equivalent international qualification) or an equivalent in industry, ACCA, CIMA
