Client Details

My client operates in the logistics, distribution and supply chain industry. They are a large, well known name with revenues in the billions of dollars.

They are at the cusp of going through a huge period of change, following the sale of the business.

There are large scale changes expected to be made in the coming years, with this role being a key position & one they are eager to fill as soon as possible.

Description

This role will play a key role the transformation of the payroll function as the business goes through a period of substantial change. You will need to find efficiencies and streamline the payroll function, whilst ensuring a high-quality payroll service is delivered to the business and amidst substantial change.

The role incorporates heavy elements of both change processes, as well as the BAU managing of a large payroll team of about 10 staff paying circa 8000 staff across the country.

This Payroll Manager position is responsible for leading the separation of payroll systems and processes from the group. Operating under a transition services agreement, the business is eager to complete the separation in early - mid 2022.

There is a real focus for this position on creating and embedding a culture of 'service excellence', with this role providing insightful analytics and reporting to ensure continuous improvement & the development of efficient processes and systems.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the payroll team to deliver the end-to-end payroll services on time
  • Provides leadership on Payroll Process and Systems "Stand-alone" planning and execution.
  • Streamline and maintain payroll processes and systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including wages, superannuation, leave, incentives, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state and tax legislation; and build knowledge of existing and new legislation and assure compliance with all relevant legislation.
  • Establish and support a suite of periodic, insightful payroll dashboards including KPIs.
  • Manage annual events such as salary reviews, internal and external audits.
  • Resolution of escalated payroll issues working with key stakeholders to find sustainable solutions which meet the needs of the business.
  • Be a change champion, leveraging technology, tools and best practice, seeking continuous improvement and implementation of best practices. This may include periodic system upgrades and oversee adoption of new functionality including the ongoing review of business processes and training materials.
  • Work across key business and functional areas to ensure payroll inputs and outputs are managed appropriately, and develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders.

Profile

The successful candidate will have experience in a similar level of role, with experience managing a large team. If you have experience in divestment/acquisitions/payroll integration - this is great, but not essential.

You will need:

  • Excellent knowledge of payroll complexities, superannuation, leave, taxation, enterprise agreements and related accounting rules
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex payroll issues across a broad stakeholder group.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while being able to prioritise and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Critical thinker who can foresee potential obstacles, develop viable options and gain agreement across the key stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship skills to foster a culture of continuous improvement the business, HR and vendors.

Job Offer
