Position purpose

The financial accountant is part of a team responsible for ensuring the Finance & Control department meets its Financial, Regulatory & Control obligations for all BNP Paribas Australian entities.

Responsibilities

Direct Responsibilities

Controls

  • Execution of Daily, Monthly and Quarterly first level controls for BNPP Sydney Branch, BPAC
  • Monthly account justification for control purposes
  • Perform fair value effectiveness testing, nostro outstanding review, sensitive accounts review, etc..

Reporting

  • Preparation and review of audit files for the external auditors
  • Assisting with / Preparation of the local statutory financial statements and Annual Statutory returns
  • Preparation of month end accruals
  • Assist APAC finance head office reporting team with data validation, reporting, analysis etc
  • Production of local regulatory reporting to APRA, ABS, RBA, ASIC, etc

Tax

  • Income tax accrual calculation
  • Preparation of quarterly tax effect accounting
  • Preparation of monthly BAS return
  • Preparation of weekly withholding tax return
  • Preparation of and /or assistance with GST returns, BAS, AIIR reports, IAS and DTA
  • Preparation of information for tax returns

General

  • Back up other team members during leave
  • Provide support to other department on ad-hoc request
  • Assistance to the Head of Financial Reporting & Control.

Technical & behavioural competencies

Core requirements for the role:

  • Financial services experience required
  • APRA regulatory reporting experience required
  • Ability to analyse and assess requirements and make suggestions and improvements
  • Experience of statutory account preparation
  • Working knowledge of tax requirements. Experience of preparation of various tax filings
  • Ability to work to tight timelines and under pressure to ensure deliverables are achieved
  • Strong communication skills
