Job Description
The Business Operations (Biz Ops) team is an internal consulting team leveraging data based analyses to recommend pathways to achieve Operational efficiencies, Customer experience improvements and solve optimization challenges. To sum it - We solve really complex problems for our internal customers.
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to drive deep insights and continuous improvement using large troves of data. The analysts should have detailed understanding of a business requirements or the ability to quickly get to the root cause of a particular business issue, and draft solutions to meet requirements or resolve the root problems, identify opportunities and communicate the findings to internal stakeholders. An ideal analyst is one who enjoys discovering and solving complicated problems, can quickly learn complex systems, likes to work with numbers, and takes pride in organizing and communicating their work. We are looking for a creative thinker with deep analytics experience who knows how to execute and deliver from concept. Ability and enthusiasm to be a change agent on a team operating in a highly ambiguous environment is required.
As a Business Analyst, you will play a key role as an internal consultant developing analyses related to the AWS Support businesses. You will need to interface with a diverse set of stakeholders and will work closely with Business Intelligence teams, Program managers, Business teams, Data engineering, Financial analysts, Operations Managers, Data Scientists and Product teams to analyze massive data sets, identify areas to improve, define metrics to measure and monitor programs, and most importantly work with different stakeholders to drive improvements over time. To be successful, you should demonstrate the ability to balance excellent analytical and technical skills while clearly driving communication and collaboration with key partners. You will also work closely with internal leadership teams to extract or mine information from our existing systems to create new analysis, and expose data from our group to wider teams in intuitive ways. As a member of the team, you will also have the opportunity to leverage your passion for data science to create high impact solutions.
Key responsibilities:
- Data collection and acting as the subject matter expert on Operational and business improvement opportunities; validating data to ensure accuracy in the output; identifying key data for projects across a variety of data stores and efficiently extracting and processing it; generating descriptive statistics and extracting insights.
- Design and execute analytic projects in collaboration with Operations, Program Managers, Business Intelligence & Finance teams. Participate in strategic and tactical planning discussions.
- Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of both structured and unstructured data to help automate and optimize key processes
- Analyze and validate data to ensure high data quality and reliable insights. Partner with Business Intelligence & Data engineering teams to improve data assets, quality, metrics and insights.
- Proactively identify opportunity areas for deep dive investigations and future program development. Define the business problem and solution approach autonomously with limited guidance
- Enable effective decision making by retrieving and aggregating data from multiple sources and compiling it into a digestible and actionable format
- Write concise documents communicating results to stakeholders and visualize data to drive decision making
Skills
• Proficiency in the use of digital tools for business analysis (Advanced Excel including VBA macros, SharePoint, Visio, tableau, BI tools etc.)
• Creative and analytical problem solving with a passion for operational excellence
• Strong analytical and interpersonal skills- ability to ask the right questions, analyze data, and bias for action
• Quick learner with strong attention to detail, ability to multitask and prioritize issues with speed and accuracy and to work in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Maths or Finance
• 4+ years proven professional experience working with large data sets and writing complex SQL queries to pull data
• 4+ years' experience in a role requiring application of analytic skills in a business analyst, data analyst or statistical analyst role or 3+ years relevant experience in business analysis
• 4+ years' experience in SQL and Excel (including Pivot Tables, array functions, Power Pivots, etc.)
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and VBA Macros
• Experience with statistical software like Minitab
• Excellent organizational skills including prioritizing, scheduling, time management, and meeting deadlines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced technical or business degree (MS, Masters in Information Science or MBA)
• Advance SQL proficiency - experience writing complex SQL statements and ability to manipulate a massive amount of data, creating dashboards/on demand reports
• Analytical horsepower to break down complex problems, and a strong will to get things done and deliver results
• Superior verbal and written communications skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with multiple teams and external organizations
• Previous work experience as a business analyst or business intelligence engineer
• Experience working with data engineering teams
• Good working fluency of Python, JavaScript and/or R
• Demonstrated ability to display complex quantitative data in a simple, intuitive format and to present findings in a clear and concise manner
• Expertise working with Tableau/QuickSight or other visualization platforms
• Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to draw business insights
• Experience making business recommendations and influencing stakeholders
