An exciting opportunity has arisen within Manchester Health Care and Commissioning for a Band 8a Business Accountant working 37.5 hours per week. The role is part of the commissioning finance team and will provide support to the Assistant Head of Finance and the wider finance team.

We are seeking applications from individuals who have the drive, passion and ability to make a difference to improve the health and social care outcomes of the people of Manchester.

The post holder will have a responsibility to deliver high-quality business management accounting work which involves the analysis of financial information, preparation of monthly reports and helping non-Finance colleagues to utilise financial and contract data for service redesign. This role leads on a number of the largest Acute and Community contracts held by the CCG.

Covid-19 has changed the number and frequency of ad-hoc reporting requirements on the department and we are looking for a senior leader who can quickly digest complex guidance and co-ordinate team members completion of tasks. The successful candidate will also be expected to support the closedown of the CCG and set-up of successor systems as we move to becoming an Integrated Care System (ICS).

The CCG is committed to training and development of its Finance staff. The successful candidate will be given opportunities to participate in wider projects to develop their professional experience.

Although the role will normally be based at Parkway Business Centre (M14 7LU), with occasional travel across Manchester, it should be noted that MHCC has recently introduced a hybrid working policy with the vast majority of MHCC’s staff being home based at this stage with occasional office days. Interviews may be undertaken via an online platform.

MHCC is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community and workforce culture – a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed. We support flexible working and will consider applications on a part-time or job share basis. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities, and we particularly welcome applications from ethnically diverse and disabled applicants who are currently under-represented within our workforce.

We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, staff engagement forums, facilities, and services to support a diverse range of staff. …and, if you spot unhelpful or off-putting jargon in our job descriptions – please tell us. We will make sure we put it right so that you can continue your interest in applying for the role that inspires you. We want to hire you, and we have a growth mindset – so do let us know if we can learn from you.

Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board (ICB)

In February 2021 the Government announced a number of new measures as part of a proposed Health and Care Bill, including the creation of statutory Integrated Care Systems (ICSs).

In Greater Manchester we have been working as an ICS for the last five years – with strong working partnerships between health and social care and the voluntary sector. The creation of a statutory ICB will formalise the arrangements we have in place and mark another positive step in our journey, which started with the health and care devolution deal in 2015. The statutory ICB will include a new ICS  NHS Body and Health and Care Partnership Board.

From April 2022 (subject to national legislative approval) the commissioning duties of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), including their functions and roles, will transfer to be delivered as part of the new Greater Manchester ICB NHS Body. This will mean that functions and roles may be delivered differently in the future, with place based and Greater Manchester-level teams working alongside each other.
