FSO IAAS LIFE & HEALTH SENIOR MANAGER - ADVISORY (LOCATION OPEN) – NEW YORK (PRIMARY), BOSTON, CHICAGO, CHARLOTTE

The opportunity 

Put simply, our actuarial advisers deliver creative and innovative thinking to high-profile Life Insurance companies worldwide, supporting them in making confident financial judgements in support of their business goals. Here, you’ll be an actuary right at the heart of that mission, leading engagement teams, working directly with clients, mentoring and developing team members and building your personal brand as a leader in your field. 

Your key responsibilities

It’s all about providing the knowledge our clients need to execute strategies and resolve complex issues. We’ll look to you to lead client engagement teams in the Life/Health area of our practice, in a wide variety of areas including:

  • Financial Reporting
  • Risk Management
  • Actuarial Transformation®
  • Financial Modeling
  • Retirement Income and Pension Risk Transfer
  • Mergers and Acquisitions
  • Actuarial Tax
  • Customer Analytics and Predictive Modeling
  • Managed Services
  • Audit Support

Skills and attributes for success

  • Lead large scale client engagements. Consistently deliver quality client services. Drive high-quality work products within expected timeframes and on budget.Monitor progress,manage risk and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes. Manage expectations of client service delivery. Stay abreast of current business and industry trends relevant to the client's business.
  • Effectively lead and motivate teams with diverse skills and backgrounds. Provide constructive on-the-job feedback/coaching to team members. Foster an innovative and inclusive team-oriented work environment. Play an active role in counselling and mentoring junior consultants within the organization.
  • Generate new business opportunities. Understand EY and its service lines and actively assess/present ways to serve clients. Develop and maintain long-term client relationships and networks. Develop relationships with team members across all EY practices to serve client needs.
  • Demonstrate deep actuarial technical capabilities and professional knowledge. Demonstrate ability to quickly assimilate new knowledge. Possess in depth business acumen. Remain current on new regulations concerning Insurance industry.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of complex actuarial concepts, discuss complex issues with the engagement team and client management, keep informed of professional standards and firm policies (e.g., Actuarial Standards of Practice), and effectively apply this knowledge to client situations.
  • Maintain a reputation as an industry expert by writing articles, taking a leadership role within industry groups and speaking at industry events.

 To qualify for the role you must have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and/or other related major.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience working in an actuarial-oriented position, with 3 years of increased management responsibility.
  • Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries or particular industry experience/credentials to meet special needs.
  • Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets and actuarial-related software, including AXIS, Prophet, ALFA, MOSES, VBA, C++ or other actuarial related software.
  • Strong writing, presentation, conceptual, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and client-service skills.

Ideally you’ll also have

  • Previous consulting experience or experience implementing new processes/procedures in a corporate environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to meet client needs
