This opportunity will offer the successful candidate a senior Group role in the assessment, design and implementation of the new IFRS standards, in particular the new insurance accounting standard (IFRS17). The candidate will form part of, and will be supported by, the External Reporting team within the Finance function and will report directly to the Group Head of IFRS Reporting who acts as Program Director for the IFRS 17 implementation. Key responsibilities will include:
Technical and reporting related
- Working closely with the Group IFRS 17 Program Director as a key participant in that implementation programme to ensure adoption of new standards is documented, tested and implemented effectively;
- Key point person in the implementation of the new IFRS 17 reporting and control process in a production environment;
- Work closely with, and ensure effective lines of communication and collaboration with CFOs and Controllers to review and monitor IFRS accounting and reporting;
- Liaise with other Group functions (Finance, Actuarial, Treasury and Tax) to understand the Company’s business, financial position and financial performance;
- Ownership of the Group IFRS general ledger, ensuring established policies and procedures are adhered to and supervision of the Group IFRS consolidation process;
- Engagement of relevant stakeholders in the implementation of IFRS 17, including acting as Chair of the Legal Entity Governance Forum for the implementation of IFRS 17
- Group technical point person responsible for researching all new and existing IFRS accounting literature, and advising of the impacts and issues facing the Company; also responsible for research and interpretation of existing IFRS accounting literature in terms of new transactions within the Group.
- Work closely with Group to implement any new IFRS accounting policies and ensure systems are configured appropriately to capture all data requirements;
- Review of any IFRS presentations and review of IFRS financial statements and disclosures;
- Monitor subsidiary and branch compliance with the Company’s IFRS accounting policies; and
- Maintaining close contact with external auditors and advisors;
- Perform related duties as assigned and assist in ad-hoc finance projects.
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Professional accounting designation (ACA/ACCA), with at least 7 years post qualification financial accounting experience either in industry or in one of the “Big 4” accounting firms;
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, with 3 – 4 years practical experience of specifically applying IFRS in the (re)insurance industry;
- Significant practical experience of reviewing and interpreting new IFRS accounting literature and determining the impact on financial reporting, systems and processes;
- Practical experience of dealing with issues related to tax, capital, investments and reinsurance accounting in an IFRS environment;
- Must be highly motivated with a proven ability to manage project deliverables at a senior level and ensure quality in every aspect of reporting;
- Experience of an IFRS implementation project in the (re)insurance industry would be beneficial;
- A good network of IFRS accounting contacts in the (re)insurance industry to compare views and ideas would be beneficial;
- Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to deliver key messages on complex topics and adjust granularity of information to the target audience;
- Experience in working in a multi-cultural context over different locations;
- Self-starter with strong skills to work collaboratively across organizational and geographical boundaries;
- Strong organizational and documentation skills;
- Dynamic and hard working individual;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Reporting:
The Group IFRS Accounting Manager will be based in any current PartnerRe office and will report to the Group Head of IFRS Reporting as part of the Group’s External Reporting team.
