Job description

The role will be located in any one of the IST office locations, including Manchester, Bristol, Birmignham, Nottingham, Leeds and Newcastle.

Account Management

  • Develop and account manage a caseload of foreign owned, UK-based companies, and develop in-depth influencing relationships with key company staff.
  • Visit and contact companies regularly in line with the account management programme principles.
  • Develop an awareness of your companies’ strategies, and their position in markets and supply chains, in order to develop account plans, source active projects and deliver added value to the companies.
  • Identify and develop potential FDI projects from your companies and land these through providing required information, signposting to additional services and delivering relevant account management support.

Knowledge acquisition to support investment

  • Create and maintain a sector focused network at a national and local level, in order to meet the needs of the FDI client.
  • Support the Head of the Sector and DIT HQ Sector Team in producing insightful sector specific strategies to inform plans and develop sector propositions to secure FDI wins.
  • Work in partnership with the Knowledge Lab Team, to ensure sector specific UK First client materials are current and appropriate for the sector.
  • Maintain up-to-date and complete understanding of the global sector and the UK’s competitive position and offer in their sector of focus. Share this information with colleagues where necessary / appropriate.

Key targets include:

  • Secure high investment band FDI projects from existing investors.
  • A positive and productive working relationship between the IST, DIT HQ and Posts.

Skills required

  • A comprehensive knowledge and network within the sector
  • Confidence and credibility when dealing with multinational companies
  • Create networks with local and national partners and look for extension opportunities to existing projects and relationships with clients
  • Strong communication skills by actively questioning and listening in order to achieve a common understanding of complex issue. Able to use appropriate tactics and techniques to send clear and convincing messages
  • Demonstrate initiative, tenacity, courage and the desire to exceed expectations and deliver against objectives
  • Proven planning and organisation skills with ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work without close supervision – able to prioritise and multi-task
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Recognises and meets client’s needs; understands the client’s perspective and offers appropriate assistance
  • Excellent team player with a flexible and adaptable approach to work
  • Ability to identify new prospective customers, to win appointments to see them and to develop relationships
  • Ability to spot / create sales opportunities and respond accordingly.
  • Shows initiative, tenacity and courage; strives to exceed expectations and deliver against objectives
  • Is exemplary in demonstrating EY values.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification is desirable however, more will be weighted on evidence of past experience in delivery of FDI or similar case work.
  • Able to work to and achieve targets – must be able to demonstrate this on CV and at Interview stage.
  • Able to understand business drivers for growth and investment
  • Have experience in account management or a related field.
  • Able to quickly build credibility with clients/industry and DIT Overseas Posts.
  • Significant experience in Automotive and Aerospace the role for which they will be interviewing for and able to show understanding specifically across DIT’s sectors of: Advanced Manufacturing (including Aerospace, Automotive, Space, Performance Engineering, Materials)
