MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm for Indigenous Nations, businesses and entrepreneurs in Canada. ROLE @ MNP

Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert industry and technical expertise in audit and assurance through client interactions, reports, technical work, management presentations and the creation of high quality deliverables
  • Manage a team of accounting and administrative personnel within the Aboriginal client group to support day to day duties related to the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, financial reporting, asset tracking and payroll
  • Conduct business analysis and identify improvements of current state: accounting processes, reporting, data quality, system tools, payroll procedures, asset training and internal controls
  • Deliver formal presentations and reports for client engagements
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using MNP internal programs and systems
  • Lead multiple client facing engagement teams
  • Plan, scope, and direct complex public company audit and assurance engagements, as well as budgeting, internal controls, financial and accounting transactions
  • Accountable for project financials (budgets, WIPS, timely billing, collection, variance recognition)
  • Manage a portfolio of clients while ensuring their needs are met and that relationships and accounts grow and develop
  • Execute transactions through the provision of client services including planning, budgeting, scheduling and coordinating engagements
  • Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries and reports
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet client needs
  • Develop a thorough understanding of MNP’s services, businesses and industry through experiential learning with clients
  • Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, materiality and deadlines
  • Think strategically about client needs by understanding their business and key risks
  • Identify ways to maximize the relationship with clients and deliver added value
  • Maintain high quality control by reviewing work done from other team members for accuracy and completeness; provide feedback to team members
  • Oversee cash management and general banking
  • Key contributor on optimization of accounting and reporting systems
  • Provide system applications support
  • Complete mid-year and annual performance evaluations and complete performance reviews of team members
  • Develop, coach, and train team members towards professional and personal development
  • Collaborate with Human Capital to recruit team members as needed
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned

Skills and Experience

  • Post-secondary education; professional accounting designation (CPA-CA, CPA-CGA, CPA-CMA) or equivalent with exceptional skills and extensive relevance in the First Nations' finances
  • 8 to15 years of progressively more responsible accounting, process development and reporting experience ideally most recently in a Controller or Financial Manager role within Indigenous Services
  • Experience working with accounting and tax software such as Sage 50, AccPacc and QuickBooks
  • Proficiency in payroll, bookkeeping and record keeping practices on a manual and computerized system(s)
  • Familiar with the First Nations Fiscal Management Act
  • Experience in the design of engagement procedures based on risk and materiality
  • Process and control improvement experience
  • Familiarity with systems and reporting initiatives
  • Intermediate to advanced system application skills
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Some travel may be required
