As a Treasury Reporting & Control Accountant for the AstraZeneca Group you will be based in Cambridge reporting into Group Financial Reporting (GFR) and partnering with the Group Treasurer.
GFR lead the AstraZeneca group's external financial reporting responsibilities which arise from our international listings (UK, US and Sweden) including the quarterly earnings announcements, Annual Report and subsidiary statutory financial statements. We drive the technical accounting and reporting requirements for the group which includes having technical accounting specialists covering treasury, pensions, insurance and acquisitions/divestments.
Group Treasury have global responsibility for implementing the Group's financial strategy including funding, cash management and management of financial risks including foreign exchange rate risk, interest rate risk and the risk of financial counterparty default. Treasury were a key part of AstraZeneca's recent purchase of Alexion Pharmaceutical Inc, raising $12bn in financing for the acquisition.
In addition to the reporting responsibilities you will have the opportunity for project work within Treasury and the wider Group Financial Reporting team. Potential projects include working on the integration of Alexion Pharmaceuticals and enhancing the forecasting of FX exposure so as to reduce P&L volatility.

Responsibilities:
- Complete the Treasury unit monthly submission, ensuring a robust control environment is maintained in compliance with SOX requirements
- Prepare and analyse Treasury's monthly P&L and cashflows, providing explanations for variances to prior year and forecast.
- Advise on the accounting implications of proposed treasury transactions, for example debt issuance or the deployment of cash reserves
- Calculate Treasury related disclosures in the Group annual reports and maintain close contact with the external auditor
- You will be a point of contact for other group teams requiring Treasury information, for example Group Tax, Planning & Forecasting and controllers from operating entities around the globe.
Essential Skills and Experience
- In addition to ACA, CIMA or a similar accounting qualification you will possess post qualification experience and be able to demonstrate knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP
- You will possess strong technical and analytical accounting skills with significant experience of financial controls, year-end accounts preparation and external auditor liaison
- You will be an individual who is keen to take on a new challenge and build on your current experience to gain knowledge and expertise in a complex area within finance
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Previous exposure to the accounting for treasury financial instruments and derivatives is desirable but the capability and aspiration to build knowledge around IAS 21, IAS 32, IFRS 7 and IFRS 9 accounting and reporting is considered equally important
- Treasury qualifications, for example AMCT, would be desirable but not essential. AstraZeneca Treasury sponsors employees wishing to study for the AMCT qualification.
