Division Description

The Finance & Accounting Division is made up of a number of core finance teams both at business unit and Group level. We perform a key management and control function in ensuring all Group financial and management reporting processes are appropriately governed. The Finance Division has overall responsibility for driving the Group budgeting and forecasting process, developing Group-focused financial insight and analysis and delivering the Group's statutory, regulatory and external reporting. We do this through collaborative business partnering in each of the Divisions and with centralised Finance shared / specialist services.

Description of business unit 

Financial Control is responsible for delivering inputs into statutory, management, regulatory, and external reporting, ensuring the right controls are in place.

Financial Control work closely with stakeholders across the Group and third parties to ensure that there is a continued focus on delivering a culture of service excellence, developing our people and supporting the achievement of the Group's strategic priorities.

Purpose of the Role

Managing a high performing team, the Head of External and IFRS9 Reporting is responsible for delivery of some of Group Finance's key external deliverables such as the Group's annual and interim reports as well as impairment reporting to support external reporting requirements and effective internal decision making and review.

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Overseeing the delivery of the Group's annual report and interim report and facilitating the successful audit is a key component of this role.
  • Support provision of financial information for other ad hoc returns/announcements and key finance related projects and initiatives as required.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders across the Group to ensure that the appropriate suite of reporting is available to meet our stakeholder requirements for each reporting cycle and ensure that any issues are appropriately resolved on a timely basis.
  • Provide financial and analytical support as required to the Group Chief Financial Officer and other members of the CFO Leadership Team
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing initiatives to deliver process efficiencies and improvements in the team's deliverables while ensuring ongoing design and operating effectiveness of the team's controls.
  • Constantly seek opportunities to streamline reporting requirements and drive continuous improvement
  • Support key finance projects and initiatives as required.

This job can be done anywhere in ROI with the primary office location as Dublin to which travel will be required for in person collaboration. Exact frequency to be agreed with manager.

Essential Qualifications 

  • Qualified Accountant with 10+ years PQE with strong academic ability

Essential Skills & Experience: 

  • The annual report process and other outputs of the function require significant engagement with a wide range of senior stakeholders, the ability to communicate effectively and influence at these levels is critical
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge of IFRS is essential in order to lead the Group's annual and interim reporting cycles
  • Proven capability to lead, develop and motivate a team to deliver high quality reporting outputs
  • Flexibility and agility to manage a developing external reporting agenda and pro-actively anticipate external and statutory challenges to recommend reporting process and content improvements.
  • High energy with a drive for results and focus on implementation excellence.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience: 

  • Previous experience of working in the banking sector
  • Relevant knowledge of the regulatory and legal environment in which the Group operates and the ability to apply that knowledge in addressing practical issues
  • IT Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), good knowledge of consolidation and general ledger systems (ideally SAP/BCS).
