Do you have great problem-solving and organisational skills, excellent relationship-building abilities, and a real desire to develop a career in finance with one of the UK's leading charities? Then join Shelter as a Finance Systems Coordinator and you could soon be playing a vital support role at the heart of our finance systems team.
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the team
This exciting new role sits within the Finance Systems team, where we work as a team of experts to safeguard resources and support decision making across Shelter and strive to ensure Shelter is financially sustainable in order to achieve our vision of a home for everyone. We support and improve Shelter’s financial information systems, helping to make sure that our financial processes are efficient, easy to use, and well controlled, plus we also manage reporting tools and run training sessions to help everyone at Shelter fulfil their financial responsibilities and look after our resources. This is the perfect opportunity to enhance your career in finance in a hard-working but rewarding, supportive and collaborative environment.
About the role
This new role has been created to improve our documenting and formalising of systems processes and lessons identified, to provide continuity within the systems team and across the organisation by providing cover for the Assistant, and developing resources needed for end users of our two finance systems.
So, whether it’s drafting and publishing a new starter’s or a leaver’s process and improving our webinar series for procurement and creating a new webinar for sales ordering or mapping sources of data into the two finance systems, there are a broad range of essential duties for you to undertake. Plus, we have an ambitious project over this 2021/22 financial year to change our coding structure which the postholder will be expected to support on with testing and documenting.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.
To make this exciting opportunity yours, you will need excellent organisational and presentation skills, as well as strong attention to detail and technical IT skills. You will have experience of using accounting software, providing support to internal customers in a technical field such as finance or IT, and identifying and implementing improvements to business processes. It would be advantageous (but not essential) if you were a part qualified accountant and/or someone with financial reporting experience in the Charity sector, but above all, you must be flexible, positive and willing to learn.
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
