We have an exciting opportunity for a Financial Operations Accountant to help support the finance team to achieve tight month-end deadlines whilst demonstrating accurate accounting records, accruals and internal controls. The role will require you to oversee and manage a small team with responsibility for maintaining controls over operational transactional areas and related balance sheets. You will be liaising with the National Express Group Shared Service Centre and Business Operations to ensure accurate controls, processes and procedures are followed across the organisation.

What you'll do...
  • Ensure that balance sheet positions are reconciled and understood. Analyse and provide commentary on variances. Agree intercompany positions with Group counterparts.
  • Day to day people management for team of two including activities such as training and career development, absence management, performance management, recruitment etc
  • Support internal and external financial audits.
  • Monitor the day to day financial operations of the NETS entities. Primary contact with the Group Shared Service Centre.
  • Continually identify risks to delivery, propose solutions and effectively manage stakeholder expectations
  • Provide support to other members of the finance team as needed.

What we're looking for...
  • Qualified accountant (essential)
  • Prior experience of balance sheet management and strong understanding of control environments
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to be able to develop strong relationships across the business
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Excel
  • Ability to thrive in a role that demands a positive attitude and flexibility in approach
