Job overview

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Clinical Audit Assistant to join our team.

The Clinical Audit Assistant will be responsible for the development and maintenance of national and local clinical audit databases relating to Endoscopy services. The post holder will work closely with the clinical teams to accurately collect complex clinical data and will prepare data reports to support with service development.

The successful applicant must have:
  • Entry level knowledge of data collection, spreadsheets/databases and clinical audit
  • Working knowledge of the NHS
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software/Windows based applications
  • Experience of Hospital computer systems e.g. Medway.
  • Experience of data entry
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To collect and validate data from case notes and audit completion forms circulating appropriately to meet pre-determined timescales for reporting.

To enter patient data onto computerised databases; subsequent updating;
maintenance, analysis and reporting e.g. monthly and quarterly reports.

The production of monthly reports against a set of key performance indicators for the Trust Board, the Division of Medicine and JAG for the purposes of performance monitoring, planning and commissioning, and collection of best practice tariffs.

To use a variety of software applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Endobase and Medway to produce information in the form of slides, charts and reports and to assist staff in the above as required.

To be aware of the need for and maintain confidentiality both with the written and spoken word.

To work independently to design, develop, implement and redesign data collection forms to match the data collection requirements of the Unit and external requirements.

To assist the Clinical Heads of Service for Endoscopy services to raise the profile of data collection and audit to support continuous quality improvement.

Providing information to the Clinical Heads of Service for Endoscopy services, nursing and senior staff, to support decision making by generating ad-hoc reports.

Bringing to the attention of nurses any uncompleted data and undertaking
comprehensive searching for missing data, and to train nursing and medical staff how to collect accurate data and it's relevance to the Trust.

To provide support, teaching and updates on Respiratory Audit to all staff to facilitate involvement and data quality.

To undertake specific audit projects using research methodologies as defined by the Clinical Heads of Service for Endoscopy services across the Services.

Knowledge Requirements
Essential criteria
  • Entry level knowledge and understanding of a range of routine work procedures particularly those based on data /information collection and processing e.g. • Knowledge of data collection, spreadsheets/databases and clinical audit. • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software / Windows-based applications. • Patient records / case notes. • Confidentiality. • Multidisciplinary Team working. • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, clinical audit / data validation and analysis gained on the job / further training.

Desirable criteria
  • Intermediate level knowledge and understanding of a range of routine work procedures particularly those based on data /information collection and processing.
  • Knowledge of audit / clinical database software.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of routine work procedures, including those outside immediate work area e.g. • Database design • Simple statistics • Specialist healthcare roles within Critical care.

Essential criteria
  • Good general education standard/ GCSE qualifications in English and maths (grade C or above) or equivalent.
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).

Desirable criteria
  • Study beyond GCSE.
  • Advanced ECDL.

Essential criteria
  • Data entry
  • Extracting data from computerised databases and producing reports
  • Presentation of data verbally and in written format

Futher Training
Essential criteria
  • Hospital computer systems e.g. PAS, case note tracking, ORION.
  • Wide range of medical / surgical terminology knowledge acquired through further training.

  • Data analysis / elementary statistics.

  • Previous experience within a clinical environment/healthcare setting at Ward Receptionist or equivalent level.
  • Team work.
