In a nutshell
To ensure the integrity and controls of accounting processing for the Sainsburys Non-Food and Argos Ledgers of Supplier Funding, including the resulting entries in the Period and Statutory Accounts. Support other areas of the business in respect of Supplier Funding queries and the relationship with Suppliers and other 3rd Party relationships. The job holder will partner with senior stakeholders when required, providing insight, analysis and commentary, aiming to drive decisions and actions that improve the bottom line. The role will work closely with Finance Transformation to embed new processes and strive for improvements across the Supplier Funding function.

What you need to do
  • Manage 2 direct reports and 7 indirect reports, leading your team to deliver against business and team objectives as agreed with the Senior Finance Manager
  • With your team, support the business in identifying risks, anomalies and opportunities. Work with the Senior Finance Manager and key stakeholders to prioritise and manage them
  • Act as subject matter expert supporting commercial teams and suppliers in all Supplier Funding matters
  • Work collaboratively with the Finance Transformation Team and Finance Business Partnering Teams to highlight and analyse opportunities to remove complexity from the Supplier Funding function
  • Where required, attend relevant meetings ensuring Finance has a 'voice' and a 'seat at the table' where P&L impact meets department initiatives
  • Work with the Gross Margin accounting team to ensure Supplier Funding is properly accounted for and journals are accurately posted to the ledgers at period end
  • Lead the Supplier Funding team through internal and external audit requirements as required throughout the year. Follow up on identified risks to provide options for mitigation to relevant decision makers
  • Manage recovery audit contracts and support the link between our 3rd part providers and commercial teams
  • In line with timeline and process set by FP&A, work with business to manage Forecasting, LV, Centrals, Budgeting & Q2F
  • Ensure that a robust financial control environment exists within the teams, evidenced by correct accounting procedures being complied with and periodic Balance Sheet account reconciliations being performed and timely reporting of risks/opportunities
  • Step up to cover the Senior Finance Manager where needed
  • Run Finance Basics master classes with wider business and commercial teams where required
  • Success in this role will mean being able to deliver timely, robust and accurate analysis; translating data into valuable business insight, communicating all relevant financial and non-financial information when needed
  • Support the development of team members to enable them to perform to their best of their abilities
  • Recruit and develop a strong team with ability for moving into other finance roles as opportunities arise

What you need to know and show
  • Professionally Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA)
  • Experience of maintaining strong financial controls
  • Strong team management / supervisory skills
  • Proven experience of analysing and interpreting data to identify opportunities and actively participate in the operational decision making process
  • E ffective presentational skills, both verbal and written with strong attention to detail
  • Curiosity beyond traditional finance boundaries and ability to understand key business drivers
  • Ability to effectively communicate and challenge senior stakeholders, including audiences of varying financial and commercial acumen to manage financial performance
  • Self-motivated team player, able to work autonomously, build and utilise a broader cross-functional network
  • Ability to prioritise workload whilst managing business and finance stakeholder expectations in a fast paced, ever changing environment
  • Proven ability and desire to deliver change
