Marathon Asset Management is dedicated to seeking attractive absolute returns through investments in the global credit markets and real estate related markets. Marathon’s London office, MCap Global Finance (UK) LLP, is seeking a Global Trade Support professional. MCap adopts a one-firm approach so whilst the role will be UK-focused, you will work within and support the global financial controls team and will be tasked with the following (but not limited to):
- Along with the Finance Director and Senior Financial Accountant, oversee all aspects of financial integrity, statutory and investment reporting, analysis, accounting, and performance of real estate investments (including debt investments) owned both directly and through partnerships throughout Europe
- Work closely with the asset management teams to ensure investments are accounted for accurately and are complete
- Maintain financial database (using business intelligence software) of all investments, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Liaison with various external accounting suppliers to ensure instructions are appropriate, clear and are being followed efficiently and effectively, responding to accounting queries
- Review of local financial statements under specific accounting policies, IFRS and US, as well as several European GAAPs
- Liaison with external auditors to ensure that annual audit is properly planned and carried out effectively
- Coordination of the bi-annual external valuation of the portfolio
- Review of VAT/CIT calculations throughout Europe
- Assistance with the budgeting process
- Reinforcement and enhancement of control environment
- Support the London trading desk in an operational function. Primary responsibilities will include inputting trades into portfolio management system, confirming trades and allocations with counterparties, and managing settlement exceptions with custodians/prime brokers.
- Assist Senior Trade Support team member in London on daily regulatory reporting requirements focusing on MIFID2 trade and transaction reporting.
- Provision of cover to the Trade Support team in London and New York
Qualifications:
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant who has 3-7 years experience in real estate and/or fund accounting
- Technical knowledge of accounting frameworks (i.e. IFRS, US GAAP, Lux GAAP, INREV)
- Good experience of financial statutory accounting
- Broad knowledge of financial control
- Self-motivated with a diligent and detailed approach to completing tasks
- Strong analytical skills. Able to understand, question and challenge a range of financial data.
- Attention to detail with an ordered and logical mindset
- Committed, hardworking and focused upon delivering results on time
- Strong communication, organisational and prioritisation skills
- Excel (to advanced level is desirable)
- Experience with business intelligence software and processes
- Fluency in English is essential, other European languages an asset (but not required)
