Profile Summary

The Finance Business Consulting team is looking for a Senior Manager-level consultant with a strong delivery record in Finance Data Architecture within Financial Services. We are looking for an experienced resource, able to design technology-based solutions to deliver business outcomes for our clients.

The candidate must be highly motivated, professional and passionate about what they do, and someone who will add to the continued success of our team.

Location

Expected based in London (although other locations in our UK offices will be considered). As part of a global organisation, the role will involve working with a variety of UK clients, and international assignments are also a possibility.

Your Responsibilities

As a Senior Manager within our Finance Business Consulting team you will specialise in offering leadership, insight and advice to Finance clients and help lead the design and architecting of large-scale Finance solution implementations, focused on data aspects.

You will be making a valued contribution to the continued success of the practice, working alongside some of the most highly regarded colleagues within the business.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the data architecture and solution design for large, complex, front to back Finance implementation e.g. helping clients select and design the tooling needed for Finance-relevant data to be sourced, captured, transformed, stored, distributed and controlled utilising Cloud/ and/or Hybrid architectures
  • Working with Finance teams to deliver data architecture solutions, leveraging knowledge of, for example, cloud data applications such as Snowflake, and/or similar assets from the hyperscale cloud providers
  • Identifying and communicating the comparative implications of using different architectures, able to articulate the relative benefits and challenges between Big Data, Cloud and traditional on-premise providers
  • Provide oversight of data related requirement gathering, solution design and build, including supporting the definition and execution of key design decisions
  • Leading the translation of clients’ technical and accounting requirements back to the underlying data architecture
  • Partner with stakeholders to design well-defined solutions that are aligned to clients’ Business and IT Strategies, looking to leverage common solutions and services to meet key project goals
  • Working with client IT, EY onshore and offshore delivery teams including reviewing / challenging outputs produced by team members, along with production of materials as needed
  • Creating an environment that encourages innovation and being a leader in this area by implementing innovative and improved solutions through application of emerging technologies, new delivery models and / or technological advancements
  • Developing strong internal and external/client networks for long term relationships, managing EY accounts and bringing firmwide offerings to clients
  • Training, coaching, and supervising junior staff
  • Supporting the administration and commercial performance of the practice, such as monitoring staff availability, chargeability and supporting the development of staff
  • Leading business development activities to help identify and research opportunities on new / existing clients, leading proposals and bids, and managing the development and delivery of high-quality proposals
  • Leading the growth of the practice via the sharing of knowledge and experience through formal and informal training, as well as demonstrating depth of specialism by contributing to EY Points of View, and developing solutions, tools and enablers to accelerate delivery
  • Contributing to the development of your own and the team's technical skills by establishing a culture of highest performing teams, applying inclusive behaviour and emotionally intelligent leadership
  • Keeping up to date with industry news and developments, and maintaining a good knowledge of emerging technologies and offerings
  • Providing quality assurance, monitoring risks, managing assignment teams and third parties, liaising with service line teams, functional specialists and Area Partners

Professional Experience

Typical experience may include, whilst not limited to:

  • Significant hands-on consulting experience at a Big 4, major systems integrator or top tier consulting firm within financial services (especially in BCM or Insurance), or a similar transformation change role in FS industry - min 2 Finance Data architecting implementations
    • Candidates specialising in BCM will have Market Data/Valuation Data knowledge
    • Candidates specialising in Insurance will demonstrate awareness of the complexities of Actuarial data interactions
  • A background in Finance, Risk/Regulation or Treasury, preferably with some interaction with top tier clients
  • Experience of working within the Finance department with solid understanding of Finance accounting, calculation and reporting requirements and associated data needs
  • Hands on exposure and experience to Finance Data solution delivery using prevailing Finance Data Cloud/Hybrid architectures (tools such as Snowflake and similar etc.)
  • Experience in leading and advising clients for roll-out of Finance Data implementations, including analysis, design, implementation, testing and support models
  • Extensive exposure to Finance processes and lifecycle
  • Demonstrate strong insight of industry trends and leading vendors for systems
  • Experience of 2 or more full implementation lifecycles. Typical programmes will have included design and delivery of data architecture to support, for example:
  • Consolidation and Planning, Cost Allocation and MI projects
  • Product accounting solution implementations
  • Finance systems architecture and strategy delivery
  • Data warehousing and data management
  • Finance, Risk and Treasury integration
  • Finance operating model design and implementation

Skills

Finance Systems specific skills

  • Strong ability to lead the definition and resolution of key Finance data architecture specific design decisions
  • Providing key insights and challenges for solution reviews and technology options
  • Demonstrate proven expertise in review of functional and technical designs against business requirements and provide challenges where relevant
  • Strong understanding and appreciation of how to leverage data architecture and emerging technologies

Consulting Skills

  • Comfortable and confident around senior stakeholders, internally and externally
  • Able to manage uncertainty and ambiguity in a project environment
  • Demonstrates strong leadership across engagement and practice teams, taking personal responsibility for the quality of delivery
  • Always display excellent communication and presentation skills to people across all levels of an organisation
  • Comfortable with Excel, Word and PowerPoint, able to translate complex concepts into digestible communications
  • Confident, concise and precise communicator, able to clearly express complex and/or challenging messages
  • Knowledgeable and sympathetic to the key issues and challenges currently facing CFOs in the financial services sector
  • Able to apply logic and structure to solve complex problems through improved data architecture
  • Instil a positive team mentality, even when under pressure, by treating their colleagues well and creating an inclusive culture

Qualifications

  • A first level university degree, 2:1 (or equivalent) or above is preferred but not compulsory
  • An accounting qualification (ACA, ACMA, ACCA), with some practical experience gained in a financial institution would be beneficial, but not essential
  • Technical certification preferred, but not essential
