About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a CORPORATE TAX AND STATUTORY REPORTING MANAGER to join our Enabling Functions team to work in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Role Purpose:

As assistant to the Head of Tax you will deal with all UK corporate tax matters including managing the preparation, review and submission of the corporate tax returns for the group, working with advisors to prepare a sizable RDEC claim and assisting with the preparation of the year end corporate tax figures for the Group accounts. You will also be responsible for managing the preparation, review and audit of the Groups subsidiary statutory accounts for the UK.

What you'll be doing

You will have the following accountabilities:

  • Be a line manager for 2 direct reports and support any apprentices and graduates who have placements in the tax team;
  • Manage the preparation, review and submission of the corporate tax returns for the UK group using OneSource software;
  • Manage the relationship with the RDEC advisors and be responsible for assisting with the claim;
  • Manage the preparation and review of the Groups UK subsidiary statutory accounts using OneSource software and assist with any audit queries;
  • Assist the Group Head of Tax Reporting with the preparation of the UK tax figures for the consolidated and statutory accounts;
  • Support the Head of Tax in managing the Tax strategy for the group, including assisting with SAO reporting;
  • Respond to ad-hoc queries on UK corporate tax matters;
  • Provide corporate tax training to finance and accounting staff;
  • Assist in responding to queries from HMRC;
  • Liaise with external advisors;
  • Maintain the Group structure for the worldwide group;
  • Manage the completion of several Office of National Statistics Surveys.

Who we're looking for

You will have the following qualities and experience:

  • You will be a chartered accountant or tax practitioner (ACA, ACCA, CIOT or equivalent) and will have 2 or more years PQE from a recognised accounting firm or a large corporate organisation.
  • You must have strong communication skills and be able to demonstrate good technical knowledge of corporate tax matters. Construction industry experience is not required but would be advantageous.
  • You will be self-motivated and capable of working independently and without supervision.
  • The position will require you to occasionally travel within the UK and may involve overnight stays.
