In a nutshell
Working as part of the Argos Financial Services (AFS) Commercial Finance Team, as the Finance Manager you'll act as the primary interface between Finance and product teams. You'll work closely with the product teams and offer a high degree of financial analysis and challenge, ensuring the preparation of reliable and timely financial plans to support business planning, pricing decisions, business cases and ad hoc papers.
You can be based from our Milton Keynes or London offices in addition to regular remote home-working. Occasional travel (up to 2 days a week) to your office location will be required weekly.

What you need to do
- R epresenting Finance at the Product Management Committees, you'll be responsible for providing financial support and challenge on current and future business performance and plans. Working independently and using judgment and subject matter expertise you will work with the business to shape future business performance and product strategy. Responsibility will include month end P&L reviews, KPI analysis, income patterns, & new product development / investment appraisals.
- Co-ordinate and process information from various sources to ensure the delivery of all aspects of the annual planning cycle and regular forecasting processes. In addition, drive the understanding of the ongoing risks and opportunities in the product and how this impacts on the full year out turn projections. Work across all stakeholders to understand and minimise ambiguity in future product performance. Use judgment and expertise to set challenging yet achievable budgets and forecasts within the context of wider AFS strategy.
- Challenge assumptions through analysis of trends and other MI available to deliver realistic, challenging and balanced forecasts and budgets. Review outputs for accuracy.
- Develop models and best practice to assist the business in measuring impact of changes to the budgeted balance sheet and P&L positions. Working with other finance teams, update and reforecast changes to products as a result of margin, commission or cost changes to support the forecasting and planning processes.
- Undertake analysis in tandem with relevant product, finance and other colleagues to support, where relevant, the production of the Individual Liquidity Adequacy Assessment (ILAA) and Individual Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) in terms of analysing the financial impact of stress scenarios and supplying commentary for inclusion in the PRA submitted documentation and to support SLRP or SREP review meetings. Provide expertise in formulating the business response to multiple scenarios.
- Using output from existing models (and developing new models) provide product managers with financial information to assist in strategic or pricing decisions and any business cases. Review and provide challenge to these business cases/pricing decisions ensuring delivery of financial results set out within the Banks wider strategy.
- Work with other parts of Finance and Treasury, where applicable, to ensure capital and liquidity plan forecast model updated to reflect actuals and highlight impact of any significant movements
- Act as primary point of contact within finance for your product area. You will be responsible for ensuring that business developments are shared with appropriate finance colleagues and are financially robust.
What you need to know and show
- You must be a qualified Accountant of 3+ years experience with practical experience of financial reporting and management accounting or have strong financial modelling qualifications and commercial experience. A prior knowledge of financial services would be advantageous
- Well organised and able to prioritise workload in line with tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure
- Highly numerate, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail (including excel knowledge).
- Excellent team player demonstrating strong relationship management skills with an ability to work closely with others to deliver results
- Excellent written communication (business and project reports) and an ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation, e.g. able to translate complex / technical issues to meet the audience's competency level
