The Academy Ambassadors programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at single-academy and multi-academy trusts (SATs and MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success.

The opportunity

Leading Edge Academies Partnership is a six school multi-academy trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Its geographical context makes the partnership unique and a fantastic staff team works collaboratively to ensure a leading edge education is provided to all children. Having recently recruited a new CEO and COO, the trust board seeks three new trustees to support their refreshment of the vision, values and strategy. Board meetings are held virtually or in person at Mounts Bay School, Boscathnoe Lane, Penzance, TR18 3JT.

The board seeks three business leaders with board-level experience in:

  • Financial Management/Business or
  • Growth and Risk Management or
  • HR (workforce planning, succession) or
  • Qualified accountant or
  • Marketing/Branding/PR

As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 - 24 months:

  • Financial Management - the relatively new CEO (who is also the trust's Accounting Officer) and Chief Operating Officer (who is also the trust's Chief Financial Officer) has led to a review of the trust's financial management and internal controls and further strengthening of its robust financial and risk management systems. The COO is also looking to develop a new workforce strategy to standardise recruitment and other people related policies and procedures across the trust, including more effective use of its HR software and payroll system (i-Trent).
  • Growth - the trust is committed to continuing its journey towards further collaboration and sharing of best practice and has aspirations to grow to ensure long term sustainability.
  • Curriculum - the trust's schools all have a unique identity and pupil profile and subject leaders and champions are working together in 'research circles', to identify which areas of the curriculum can be tailored or standardised. The trust aims to become leading edge in its ecological approach to education.

  • What's involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, 'eyes on, hands off' commitment which typically involves attending c. six board meetings per year/6-8 hours' time per month.

    • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
