Our Southampton office has been established for over 10 years and has over 60 staff, including partners/directors/associate directors. The office provides assurance and business services, personal taxation, business taxation, corporate finance and restructuring and recovery services in a wide variety of sectors. From the Southampton office, we provide the range of services listed above primarily to SME corporates which are typically entrepreneurial owner- managed businesses. We also work with a number of not-for profit, pension and residential housing clients. We offer a partner-led service delivered in a pragmatic and approachable way.

Job Description
Purpose of Role:
Accurate processing of clients' financial data and the preparation of annual financial accounts and associated outputs therefrom within the time frame agreed with the client or required by statute. Liaising with the audit team to ensure that financial statements are prepared to a high standard and on a timely basis to allow audit procedures to be completed and key deadlines met.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare annual financial statements including statutory accounts, predominately under FRS102. This includes consolidated financial statements for our group clients.
  • Interactions with clients to undertake accounting work as required - both over telephone/e-mail and potentially occasional on-site client visits.
  • Work closely with the audit and business tax teams to provide a seamless service to clients and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Be prepared to share ideas about how best to operate the accounts preparation process in order to improve efficiencies for the firm.

  • Accuracy - to ensure transactions are processed correctly.
  • Judgement - to be able to assess a situation and reach a suitable conclusion based on the information available or know when to consult colleagues.
  • Planning and organisation - needed throughout the process to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Client focused - develop relationships and gain the confidence of clients. Ability to attend to client queries and emails on a timely basis, and have the flexibility to work on-site at clients' premises if required.
  • Use of IT - be able to work on IT packages such as caseview and excel. An understanding of cloud accounting packages such as Xero or Exact is desirable.
  • Commercial awareness - an understanding of each client's organisation, their industry and business in general assists in putting each assignment into perspective and in identifying potential risks.
  • Candidate Profile
    Education/Qualifications:
    • 5 GCSE's Grades A-C to include Maths and English.
    • Study support towards the AAT qualification or ACCA qualification.
    Key Experience/Skills:
    • Prior experience of computerised accounting packages including cloud based software.
    • Ability to work independently but as part of a wider team.
    • Results orientated to meet and exceed client expectations, with a key focus on delivering high quality work that consistently meets internal and/or external client deadlines.
    • Understanding of new accounting standards.
