Job Description:

PwC currently has a number of Associate positions available across our Assurance, Advisory, Tax, Risk Assurance, and One Firm Services lines of service in Hong Kong. Please see below for the list of open positions and the job descriptions:

1. Line of Services: Assurance – Audit and Assurance Services

In Assurance you’ll be part of the team that really interacts with every aspect of clients’ activities; understanding what their business to identify where our high-quality audit can add insight and value. It’s critical work that enhances corporate governance and plays an important role in ensuring the reliability and relevance of business information.

As you work with some of our most prestigious clients, you’ll develop the business skills, knowledge and relationships you need to do well in a career that’s about so much more than numbers.  Put simply, our PwC Assurance teams ask questions, test assumptions, and evaluate whether companies are reporting information that investors and others can rely on.

  • To work as part of a team of professional business advisors and accountants to meet the needs of our clients
  • To review clients' accounts and report to shareholders on the financial status of the company
  • To appraise the effectiveness of clients' financial systems
  • To consult and assist clients to solve other complex business problems; and
  • To assist in providing advice and assurance services to companies raising debt or equity and other capital market transactions.

2. Line of Services: Assurance – Actuarial

The firm provides a wide range of services to help organisations solve business issues, identify and maximise opportunities. Our industry specialisation enables us to identify trends and customise solutions for each sector of interest. Each line of service is staffed with highly qualified, experienced professionals and leaders in our profession. These resources, combined with our global network, allow us to provide the support needed wherever we may be located. As a pan-Asia practice, our professional staff meets the needs of our clients in the areas of:

  • Actuarial audit support in Life insurance, Non-Life insurance and Pension liability
  • Financial modeling work including valuation, IFRS/US GAAP conversion, embedded value calculation (EV, MCEV), asset liability modelling, pricing and profitability analysis etc.
  • Insurance consulting work including market risk management, IPO support, market entry strategy and analysis, actuarial due diligence, business plan development, product design, reinsurance sufficiency review, dynamic financial analysis, capital allocation and management information design etc.
  • Actuarial system related work including system management, model implementation, model training and model outsourcing etc.

​3. Line of Services: Advisory – Consulting (Management, Technology, Risk)

Consulting aims to help the world’s most significant organizations to address their most complex challenges that they need to deal with, and anticipate the social, mobile and human connectivity opportunities of the future. We provide total solutions including operation optimization, financial management, risk control, people and organization development and accelerate information system transformation. We combine creative vision and strategic insights to bring meaningful change to our clients. As an Associate you will:

  • Work in multi-disciplinary engagement teams to deliver complex solutions to our client base, which includes multi-nationals, state-owned and private enterprises
  • Work on engagements aligned to your educational background, experience and interests, and the needs of our clients.
  • Possibly work with several competencies in the Consulting practice to deliver these engagements.

4. Line of Services: Advisory – Deals (Edge Programme)

Edge is a three-year graduate programme for Asia Pacific featuring a blend of

international development opportunities, rotations in at least three Deals business units, and online regular, professional and technical learning, providing the support you need to complete professional qualifications. Upon successful completion of the Edge programme and your professional qualification, you’ll be awarded the PwC Master of Deals certificate and be given the opportunity to specialise in the business unit and industry which best suits you and where you can build a successful career.

  • In Transaction Services you’ll support private equity firms, investment funds and corporate clients through mergers, acquisition and disposals. Advising throughout the life of the deal, you’ll see both the buy and sell side of the work, develop specialist sector understanding and build key skills in financial due diligence.
  • Our Valuations team are diverse and collaborative. They work alongside clients to support them in making key commercial and strategic valuation decisions on business deals or restructuring, disputes, tax regulation and financial reporting. Valuing a business involves a blend of technical and industry knowledge, commercial and market insight and an inquisitive mind.
  • The Business Recovery Services team provides various turnaround solutions to distressed businesses, including handling non-performing loans, special distressed asset situations, liquidation of companies and debt restructuring
  • In Corporate Finance we offer a full range of financial advisory services as the lead advisor role. We operate across all industry sectors and your clients could range from corporates and private equity houses, to major government departments and private sector contractors and developers.
  • In Deal Strategy & Operations, we assess companies and markets in the context of a transaction, from strategic and operational perspectives, looking to help clients deliver deal value.

5. Line of Services: Tax - General

Tax and regulatory issues are on top of the mind for many companies operating around the world today. As a tax professional, you will help organisations and individuals maximise their tax efficiency and manage their tax risks. You achieve this through the advice you give your clients on how to conduct proper tax planning and helping your clients to fully meet their tax compliance obligations.

  • Provide Hong Kong tax compliance and consulting services to clients in one of the industries: - retail, financial services, trading, technology, manufacturing, transportation or logistics;
  • Work with a team of professionals on cross-teams and regional tax advisory and consulting projects, such as public listing, merger and acquisition, group restructuring, transfer pricing study, operations review and tax dispute resolutions;
  • Structured training will be provided equipping you to become a professional advisor

6. Line of Services: Tax – Global Mobility Services

PwC regionalised its GMS practices in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam into a new regional business with effect from 1 July 2007.

The combined business will provide personal and expatriate tax compliance and consulting services; pension and social security compliance and consulting services; international and mobility services; employment regulatory compliance and consulting services; immigration services; and employee reward advice and planning.

  • Assist clients in their individual income tax compliance obligations, including preparation of individual income tax computations and returns, and handling correspondence with the respective tax authorities;
  • Advise on tax considerations in individual income tax efficiency planning;
  • Advise on international mobility, reward and employment related matters, e.g. visa and work permit; and
  • Maintain client relationship (maintain daily communication with client and respond to client's request on a timely manner).

7. Line of Services: Tax – Private Client Services

Our Private Client Services team comprises experienced tax and legal professionals. We specialise in advising clients in their family wealth and succession planning taking into account issues which may relate to stamp duty, trust law and taxation

  • Assist in preparation of documentation in relation to and support superiors to handle family wealth planning projects;
  • Assist in the set-up of asset holding structure for family wealth planning purposes;
  • Assist in the formation of Hong Kong or offshore companies and the ongoing maintenance including the filing of the necessary returns with the registration authority;
  • Assist in the application and ongoing maintenance of immigration matters.

8. Line of Services: Tax – Global Mobility Services

PwC regionalised its GMS practices in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam into a new regional business with effect from 1 July 2007.  The combined business will provide personal and expatriate tax compliance and consulting services; pension and social security compliance and consulting services; international and mobility services; employment regulatory compliance and consulting services; immigration services; and employee reward advice and planning. 

  • Assist clients in meeting their individual tax compliance obligations, including preparing of individual tax computations and returns, and handling correspondence with the respective tax authorities;
  • Give advice on tax considerations in individual tax efficiency planning;
  • Give advice on international mobility, reward and employment related matters, e.g. visa and work permit;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with PwC network and clients (maintaining daily communication with them and respond to their requests on a timely and professional manner);
  • Manager client engagements including keeping track of compliance status, putting standard work procedures in place and maintaining proper documentation;
  • Conduct technical research on individual income tax related matters

9. Line of Services: Risk Assurance

Business today is increasingly complex – from the way organisations are managed and structured, through increasing integration with business partners and service providers, to the ever greater levels of reliance placed on underlying information systems and business processes. In addition, new regulations – domestic and international – are placing a greater emphasis on the effectiveness of internal controls, and this often requires independent assurance. You will provide value-added insights that help to improve system and business control effectiveness across various organizations. Working with our leading clients in key industries in the Risk Assurance team, you will gain exposure to:

  • Conduct reviews of IT general computer controls, business process / application controls and cyber and IT security
  • Assist clients in identifying and assessing business process controls, and linkage to IT systems, including complex systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, etc.) and underlying technology infrastructure
  • Perform internal audits and provide specialist services for Internal Audit Departments
  • Assist organisations to improve internal controls and process efficiency, and mitigate risks
  • Different types of consulting assignments such as business process & compliance reviews

10. Line of Services: One Firm Services – X-Venturer

It is a two year programme where PwC X-Venturers will work on projects across multiple business units/lines of services. As we look in to further developing your leadership skills, relationship building skills and innovative mindset. After the programme you would have a clearer career pathway, stronger network and knowledge from the different teams to provide an innovative and holistic solution to our clients.

PwC X-Venturer members will have the opportunity to build their pathway in the first two years. Depending on your career aspirations and business needs your program manager will allocate your engagements. We will ensure you receive the right experiences for your qualification as well as having a diversified work experience based on your skillset and preferences.

11. Line of Services: One Firm Services – Integrated Urban Services

As an Associate, you will:

  • Provide support on client assignments that help to deliver effective public policy
  • Work with clients to identify, clarify and resolve their strategic and operating success issues by thoroughly preparing for and conducting interviews, gathering required data, executing required analyses, identifying issues and problems, and recommending approaches to address them, testing quality of data and reconciling data across sources, presenting facts and evidence in meetings and serving as an effective support resource to team in client meetings
  • Work in the project teams to prepare proposal and bidding documents and conduct market search, and perform data collection, compilation and analysis.

Qualifications:

We are mainly looking for final year undergraduate and graduate students (intended to graduate in 2022) in all majors. Successful applicants should demonstrate:

2. Special Qualifications of Line of Services: Advisory – Consulting (Management)

Bachelor or Master degree from relevant disciplines such as Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Human Resources, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Actuarial, Econometrics and Statistics, Occupational Psychology, Marketing, Accounting

  • Strong analytical, decision making and problem-solving capabilities
  • Business acumen
  • Knowledge of analytics and quantitative techniques

3. Special Qualifications of Line of Services: Advisory – Consulting (Technology)

  • Bachelor or Master degree from relevant disciplines such as Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, and Mathematics
  • Strong analytical, decision making and problem-solving capabilities
  • Business acumen
  • Knowledge of analytics and quantitative techniques

4. Special Qualifications of Line of Services: Advisory – Consulting (Risk)

  • Bachelor or Master degree from relevant disciplines such as Statistics, Econometrics, Finance Engineering, Computer, Mathematics and Finance
  • Knowledge in data cleaning, modelling and programming is an advantage
  • Practical experience in using Python, SAS, VBA; knowledge in using SQL is an advantage
  • Experience in quantification, strategy and business analysis is an advantage
  • Knowledge of analytics and quantitative techniques

5. Special Qualifications of Line of Services: Tax – Private Client Services

  • A degree holder preferably in Accounting/Law/Corporate Governance but not essential
  • Student member of ICSA / HKICS/HKICPA will be an advantage
  • One to two years of company secretarial or personal tax experience preferable but not essential
  • Proficient in English and Chinese. Putonghua is essential
  • Chinese writing and reading skill is essential

6. Special Qualifications of Line of Services: Tax – Global Mobility Services

  • Relevant tax experience in a similar working environment or knowledge in HK, PRC or US tax would be a plus
  • Client-oriented and team-oriented

7. Special Qualifications of Line of Services: Risk Assurance

  • Strong interest in developing your future career in IT auditing, cyber security and data analytics
  • Business acumen and appreciation of the use of IT systems, technology infrastructure, networking, etc.

8. Special Qualifications of Line of Services: One Firm Services – Integrated Urban Services

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in management disciplines (e.g. Business Administration) or disciplines with strong analytical discipline (e.g. Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science) or similar qualifications
  • A passion for Government and Infrastructure in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area
  • Project or research experience in any of our areas of focus mentioned above
  • Practical experience working with or in public sector organisations (desirable)
  • Strong analytical mindset and creative problem solving capabilities
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese is essential, and Mandarin is desirable.
