Our client are a high growth Engineering group who have recently benefited from a significant investment and are undergoing a major transformation project and have seen an almost 100% increase in revenue over the past 18 months.
To answer the need for greater commercial support and the additional workload they have decided to bring in a Commercial Finance Manager, a newly created role which will be key in the control, planning, and reporting on the wider company and on a number of major projects. The successful candidate will have to be a fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with strong Excel skills who can take the lead in financial modelling and business planning.

The candidate
To answer the need for greater commercial support and the additional workload they have decided to bring in a Commercial Finance Manager, a newly created role which will be key in the control, planning, and reporting on the wider company and on a number of major projects. The successful candidate will have to be a fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with strong Excel skills who can take the lead in financial modelling and business planning.
Duties will include:
- Preparation of management reporting internally and to the parent company. Current management reporting includes a flash report (day 3), monthly report (day 6), reforecast, annual budget, and 5 year plan. All reporting accompanied by a detailed written commentary and analysis which includes critical review and interpretation of results.
- Preparation of detailed financial forecasts of all key long-term contracts to include a detailed analysis of profit and loss, cash flow and balance sheet impacts. Familiarity of working with long-term contracts which are percentage of completion accounted preferable but not essential.
- Provide high quality and timely analysis and insights to maximise and shape growth of the business and support change projects.
- Support and liaise within the finance and controlling functions to ensure accurate monthly reporting is produced.
- Work with operational teams to understand risks, expected profitability, cashflow and balance sheet, working capital sensitivity analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of quotations and the financial presentation of new opportunities.
- Support senior management in specific investigations into contract and company performance.
- Support senior management to strengthen and develop the accounting policies and processes to ensure that best practice internal controls are maintained.
- Produce reports, presentations and papers in various formats which include well considered opinion and recommendations to enable effective decision making.
The candidate
- Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACA/ACCA) from either a practice or industry background
- Demonstrating excellent Excel financial modelling skills and a passion for financial modelling essential.
- SAP experience would be beneficial
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, an ability to present complex analysis in a simple manner.
- Comfortable with challenging stakeholders, both internal and external.
- A strong team player with demonstrable influencing skills, able to articulate clearly and concisely in ways that promote understanding to varying audiences.
- A commercial understanding to "look beyond the numbers" and understand the wider business context.
