Purpose

The Audit Department is the 3rd Line of Defense and plays a key role in the internal control system of the Bank. Its mandate is to provide independent and objective assurance over the design and effectiveness of internal controls to mitigate risks and to provide advisory services designed to improve the Bank's operations.

The incumbent will have responsibility for the leader of the GBM Audit Group to provide independent, objective risk assessment of the effectiveness of the GBM Operational Risk Management within the overall Operational Risk Management Framework. The incumbent will also act as a subject matter expert of Operations and will lead thematic audits and participate in various regulatory remediation projects and deliver quality work in accordance with the department Methodology.

Accountabilities
  • Assists the VP in the development, management and coverage of operational risk within GBM:
    • Plan execute and report on audits of GBM Operations - covering Global Wholesale Operations and GBM 1B function.
    • Liaises with Country/Business Audit teams to ensure consistency in audit coverage and execution (across GWO and 1B across all jurisdictions).
    • Develops and executes annual Operations Audit Plan, Operational Risk coverage strategies and updates the Risk Assessment Database.
    • Accountable for operational audits covering GBM (Wholesale Banking Operations) and leads/directs audits of the operations, and special investigations/ assignments working with the GBM Business Line audit group in all jurisdictions.
    • Maintains a thorough understanding of operational risks and processes covering trading and corporate banking. This includes keeping abreast of key industry developments, regulatory changes, and identifies key systemic issues facing the industry that will impact the annual audit plan and/or quarterly Audit Committee report opinion.
    • Manages and executes the quarterly continuous monitoring program. Develop and maintain effective communication with stakeholders including appropriate handling of conflicts and issue resolution.
    • Champion and develop tactical strategies for increasing the use of analytics/data drive effective annual planning / risk assessment, continuous monitoring, as well as engagement / project execution.
    • Identify skills and knowledge gaps to recommend and deliver target training program to audit division.
    • Communicates key regulatory compliance changes (impacting operations) and trends/themes.
    • Lead and participate in audit remediation activities (e.g. validation of issue for closure)


  • Human Resource Management
    • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates the team for continuous learning and improvement by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/ strategy; coaching; and supporting development goals.
    • Prepares/reviews (for direct reports) periodic and annual performance self-assessments.
    • Manage recruiting, interviewing and selection of audit staff.
    • Manage self-development by/through confirming job expectations and develops and manages his/her personal development plan and identifying mentors/coaches.


Education & Experience
  • 10+ years' experience in Wholesale Banking Operations Audit, Operations area or related consulting experience
  • Expert knowledge of the Operational Risk framework, structure, programs, key regulations /regulators, and systems
  • Internal or external audit background. Accounting designations / technical / professional qualifications (CPA, CFA, CSI CCO etc.) will be an asset.
  • University degree in business, finance, economics, accountancy or any other relevant area
