The Division

The Legal, Privacy and Internal Audit Branch, is within the Corporate Services division providing strategies, solutions and services that make our clients' working lives easier and their projects more efficient and effective. Our high-performing internal audit and fraud and corruption prevention teams work collaboratively across the organisation, partnering to provide critical risk management guidance, advice and assurance.

The opportunity

The Executive Director Internal Audit and Fraud & Corruption Prevention is a critical position, responsible for providing strategic direction and executive leadership for the internal audit and corruption prevention functions. Through highly effective partnering with the business, the Executive Director will ensure the delivery of strategies, frameworks, policies and annual plans are strategically focused and risk-based.

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the role will also hold the position of Chief Audit Executive of Transport for NSW, Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink.

What you will be involved in

As the Chief Audit Executive, you will provide strategic leadership and direction for a team delivering the internal audit programs that provide assurance to the Transport for NSW Secretary, the Chief Executives of Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink and the Audit and Risk Committees of the agencies in the Transport Cluster around business process, the effectiveness of risk management, financial and operational integrity and compliance with legislative and policy requirements

  • You will lead and develop highly effective and efficient internal audit and corruption prevention teams with deep understanding of the business, delivering programs that align to organisational priorities and whole-of-government initiatives, driving accountability across all levels within Transport


  • You will provide oversight across the development of internal audit programs for the agencies, implementing and ensuring effective delivery through a co-sourced model that aligns with organisational strategy and compliance with internal audit methodology, industry standards, legislative and policy requirements


  • You will oversee the development and deployment of contemporary fraud and corruption control strategies, frameworks and programs for a large, complex and diverse business that supports a culture of ethical decision making and reporting


  • As a thought leader maintaining a current awareness of current and emerging internal audit and risk issues, trends and global best practice, identifying opportunities and innovative approaches to support business objectives


About you

  • You have extensive expertise providing contemporary advice and assurance on the management of organisational risk and supporting a culture of strong governance and compliance in relevant industries such as infrastructure, transport, finance or government


  • You bring proven experience working in large, highly-visible, complex organisations developing effective internal audit and corruption prevention initiatives, frameworks and processes that deliver value to stakeholders and customers


  • You will be highly adept working at the Executive and Board level and have experience serving and participating in Audit and Risk forums and committees


  • You will bring an exceptional record in stakeholder engagement and relationship management with proven capability to forge long-term consultative and collaborative relationships across a diverse group of stakeholders within NSW Government


  • You will have outstanding leadership and people management skills with experience building capability and developing high performing teams through periods of transformation and change


  • You will be a professional member of the Risk Management Institute of Australia (RMIA) or the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)
