Senior Project Accountant

Would you like to work in a busy environment where you are responsible for a wide range of projects and products across multiple platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Project Accountant at our Broad Oak site in Portsmouth, in the Underwater Weapons Groups (UWW).

UWW is an established part of the business with a portfolio of projects including Torpedoes, Mine Neutralisation, Submarines Support to UK and international customers, with exciting growth in both existing products and through development of novel technologies.

As a Senior Project Account, you will support the Finance Manager for the UWW group and ad hoc support to Head of Finance on central reporting tasks, using our new IT tools (BPC and SAP) to be bold and explore new ways of working and analysis data to enhance future performance.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your Project Accounting skills and grow into a Business partnering role. We are looking ideally for someone with the ability and ambition to progress into a potential future Finance Manager role.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Project Accountant will involve:

  • Primarily interfacing with project stakeholders to provide value adding financial support and challenge.
  • Creating and updating reports within our Finance tool (SAP BPC) and our ERP (SAP).
  • Providing support to Project Managers and Project Controllers ensuring that project finances are maintained in line with the Finance Control Framework (FCF).
  • Providing Project teams with sound and robust financial guidance. Working and partnering as a member of the project team, while providing rigorous challenge and compliance with financial policies and controls.
  • Bringing business acumen to bear in all discussions on delivery and winning of new business.
  • Supporting project reviews through the provision of accurate and timely contract status reports, summary status reports and other financial inputs to review packs.
  • Supporting the bid and approval process, producing NPV and IEP documents to support RBA process.
  • Being responsible for balance sheet, P&L and cash flow of programme area.
  • Proactively seeking continuous improvement and challenging process, where required.
  • Supporting risk reviews, taking a considered approach to risk vs reward.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

  • Project or Management Accounting experience
  • Have an advanced level in Excel
  • Commercial acumen with numerical / analytical skills
  • Experience in a project environment or within a large complex business

Desirable

  • Knowledge of SAP BPC environment, in addition to SAP experience
  • Risk management
  • Detailed knowledge of Project Lifecycle Management (LCM) process
  • Understanding of MoD and US DoD Accounting / Contracting requirements
  • CIMA/ACCA/ICEAW qualified or part qualified with experience

You will have the ability to influence others and generate successful outcomes using excellent communication skills and confident in dealing with senior stakeholders. This role will include elements of system and process design, sharing best practice and developing existing ways of working, so attention to detail is very important. You will have an aptitude to learn and a willingness to get involved in projects across functions.
