Job Description:

Grant Thornton's Insurance Accounting advisory team specialises in helping clients with technical accounting and financial reporting issues, the implementation of IFRS/UK GAAP accounting standards, and conversions.

You will play a key role in the Insurance Accounting Advisory team. You will work with insurance clients and support and contribute to the delivery of solutions and value-added advice on complex accounting issues. This may include supporting IFRS 17/9 implementation, finance system implementation (for e.g., GL), IFRS / UK GAAP conversion support, accounting policy review projects, technical accounting and reporting issues, group reorganisations, M&A and ad-hoc accounting support.

We work with large as well as SME insurers and reinsurers and this will allow you to apply your technical accounting and financial knowledge and experience in the insurance advisory space. You should have knowledge of the hot topics and challenges currently facing Insurance CFOs.

You will provide technical accounting support as part of the Insurance Accounting Advisory team to
  • Assist in the delivery of technical accounting advisory to our clients
  • Research and development of technical accounting issues, respond to questions and develop/produce high quality technical accounting memos, papers or reports
  • Understand and present complex financial information clearly either in written or verbal form to internal as well as external clients
  • Develop and/or participate in and assist with any business development initiatives and collaborative working with Financial Services Group colleagues or others in the wider firm
  • Assist in preparation of research materials/ white papers / articles / training material
  • Support the development, launch and marketing of new initiatives and service lines to diversify the business
  • Deliver high quality work that is subject to a suitable contract with the client
  • Seek regular feedback and identifies and acts upon learning and development needs in order to develop technical and personal skills


The minimum criteria
  • An accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA etc) with good technical accounting experience in the insurance sector. Experience of IFRS 17 is advantageous.
  • Experience in technical accounting under IFRS and/or UK GAAP for insurance companies.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate experience in working in multi-functional teams and delivering high quality deliverables within tight timeframes
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel and a good working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word.
