Assistant Financial Accountant (Balance Sheet)

This position presents the opportunity and challenge of working in both a dynamic and exciting environment within the UK's largest dedicated online grocery retailer and technology business. As an Assistant Financial Accountant, you'll be an integral member of the accounting team, responsible for assisting with the Group's balance sheet reconciliation process, supporting the financial close activities and reporting financial results. You'll also be responsible for reviewing Balance Sheet reconciliations, assisting with an analytical review of the Group and subsidiary Balance Sheets, and assisting with the reporting on the Group Balance Sheet position on a monthly basis

So what will you be doing?

• Support the Balance Sheet review process, continuously driving improvements in efficiency and quality and the delivery of in-house Balance Sheet Reconciliation training
• Support the wider finance team with preparation of high quality and standardised Balance Sheet reconciliations
• Maintain detailed documentation of the Group's balance sheet reporting processes
• Supporting the preparation of the Monthly Balance Sheet pack and Periodic Board Pack with high quality variance analysis and commentary as well as the Group Balance Sheet budget and reforecasts
• Liaising with accounting teams where appropriate to promote consistency and accuracy
• Helping resolve issues and/or raise issues to senior management in a timely manner
• Produce operational reporting for the commercial/accounting line
• Support the provision of the accurate numbers for all disclosures in the annual report and statutory accounts
• Support the team to implement and adhere to accounting policies set by the in-house technical team
• Support the global process owner for record to report processes by driving process efficiency, effectiveness and compliance
• Support the management team to drive process governance and measure process effectiveness
• Embed a culture of controls within the team, responsible for operating effectiveness of all key controls within the department's processes and remediation of any control weaknesses

So what would we like to see?

• Part qualified in a relevant financial qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a passion to become a fully qualified accountant
• A good understanding of core financial processes and relevant systems, particular period end reporting.
• Knowledge of accounting, tax and reporting standards and principles
• An understanding of balance sheets and P&L
• Good working knowledge of MS Excel
• Good communication, prioritisation and planning skills with strong attention to detail
• Motivation to develop your career, improve your technical skills and progress into a Finance Accountant and beyond in the future
