JOB PURPOSE
The Costs and Management Accountant will be responsible for provision and monitoring of cost-effective data needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information for all Hospital services and products. He/ She will be the key lead in preparation, reporting and analysing financial information for decision making.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Cost Accounting Roles
- You will plan, study, collect and analyse cost data to determine costs of running the business/hospital and advice accordingly on how these can be recovered through appropriate pricing models.
- You will be responsible for all cost reviews and price updates in the accounting system. You will ensure that all services/products with their prices are updated as per guidance of the finance manual at all times.
- Working with heads of departments, you will be responsible for the financial appraisal of all new services/products before they are taken on by the Hospital giving reports on your recommendations with comparatives in the industry.
- Ensure that changes in service costs, input costs, service delivery methods and labor are constantly monitored, captured and reported on for quick decision making on pricing of Hospital services. This will help ensure that the Hospital attains a breakeven point on all services being offered at all times.
- Responsible for providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of services at the hospital.
- Ensure accuracy of cost data in the accounting system. You will support colleagues in areas of system reconciliations, inventory counts and adjustments including ensuring that a monthly itemsised inventory audit report reconciled to the General Ledger is availed to the Head of Department.
Management Reporting Roles
- Ensure availability of monthly, quarterly and annual management reports including statistical data and trends for management information and decision making.
- Budgeting: Responsible for collection of data in relation to the annual budget process and ensuring that a draft budget is availed for management discussion and ensure the same is updated in accounting system.
- Provide Budget analysis and ad hoc variance reports to management by investigating anomalies and variances on a monthly basis for decision making and action.
- Participate and assist the Head of department in financial analysis and forecast especially in times of budget revisions.
- Working with the Stores Manager, ensure that quarterly stock taking is done and adjustments made appropriately.
Other Roles
- Ensure availability of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for your section.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a clear record keeping system for your section to easy and facilitate record management at all times.
- Actively participate in all audits (Internal and External) through information sharing and control. Perform any other works in the department of Finance as may be assigned by supervisor from time to time.
EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration or a related field with a bias in Accounting.
- Must have completed either ACCA or CPA professional qualification
- Working experience of 2-3 years in a similar role/industry will be an added advantage
- Proficiency with MS- Office especially Excel is desirable.
- Working knowledge of SAP Business One ERP Systems is desirable
