Role profile
This is a key role in a small Finance team. Reporting directly to the Senior Finance Officer, the Accountant will act as Finance Business Partner to a number of departments across the organisation, including tracking and reporting of income and expenditure against budget, as well as supporting the Senior Finance Officer with day-to-day Finance operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Process all types of accounting transactions, including accounts receivable, payable, cash and payroll, with all transactions being well documented
- Act as Finance Business Partner to a number of departments and projects, including budget preparation and reporting of actuals against budget
- Assist with consolidation of financial statements including income & expenditure statements, balance sheet and cash flow
- Compute and prepare taxes and other statutory returns including VAT returns.
- Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts and reports in timely fashion
- Administer monthly, quarterly and annual closings processes.
- Reconcile accounts, including accounts payable and receivable.
- Prepare accruals following the accruals principle, and process timely bank payments.
- Conduct database backups.
Person Specification
Knowledge & skills
- A recognised CCAB qualification, ideally with at least two years’ post-qualification experience in a multi-cost centre environment. Part-qualified candidates with particularly strong experience will be considered and supported.
- Confident preparation of a full set of consolidated statutory accounts
- Previous exposure to SORP accounting including restricted and unrestricted funds
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office with advanced use of Excel, Sage and on line databases.
- Proactive and methodical approach; ability to work efficiently and accurately with excellent attention to detail
- Proven capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work in and support a culture of continuous improvement.
