About Us

As the NSW Government's principal financial and economic adviser, Treasury's role is to enable the Government to deliver its promise to support the people of New South Wales (NSW), and look to 2021 with renewed ambition to forge a brighter future in a prosperous and confident post-pandemic economy.

As part of our vision to become a World Class Treasury, we believe Treasury has a primary role in supporting and investing in our key partners (service delivery clusters).

Our responsibility includes lifting financial management capability and culture across the sector and supporting the NSW Treasurer's priorities: economic growth, achieving fiscal repair and delivering economic reform, working swiftly to produce implementation plans for each priority.

About the team and the role

The Financial & Operations Group delivers services to Treasury across a range of corporate areas including finance and administration, project management, corporate planning, and risk management. The Group also stewards the sector in financial management, accounting policy and risk to ensure sound governance, assurance and regulatory frameworks are in place, thereby supporting financial control, effective decision making and delivery of high quality and timely financial information.

The Audit & Risk Team exists as an integral part of good management practice and an essential element of good corporate governance. The aim of risk and compliance management is not merely eliminating the risks preventing us from achieving our objectives - which includes seizing opportunities - but ensuring that risks are identified, assessed, mitigated to an acceptable level and continually monitored.

As the Senior Advisor, your role is critical in providing analysis and reports for implementation on risk management and compliance for NSW Treasury. The role demands effective and high-level stakeholder management with a diverse range of leaders within Treasury and has a pivotal role in advising on factors that contribute to the compliance programs.

Essential Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive work experience in risk management and compliance.
  • Demonstrated risk management knowledge and experience in financial/reputation risk management strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and an understanding of the workings of government processes and systems, including policy and statutory requirements.
  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written with an ability to flex style according to the relevant stakeholder and situation.
