Compliance and Operations Role - new Boutique Asset Manager
Location: Mayfair (West End London)

BACKGROUND
Our client is a newly established asset management firm benefitting from the support of an established and highly regarded Mayfair asset manager.
You will join the Operations team and work within Compliance and Risk Management, providing Finance cover and assisting with various operational functions. It is a broad role within a growing boutique firm that will offer unrivalled long-term opportunities.
The opportunity is ideal for a graduate with a legal or accounting background.
The role includes a competitive remuneration package and Standard hours will be 8:30AM to 6:00PM, with an hour for lunch. Flexibility is required for the occasional longer day.
EDUCATION / ATTRIBUTES
- Graduate with a reasonable degree pass (most likely within law or a numerate/accountancy related subject).
- Experience within asset management, investment or a closely related industry essential.
- Likely successful candidates must demonstrate numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail, as these are critical functions of the role.
- Successful candidates must demonstrate an interest in regulatory, legal, tax and accounting issues.
- Good PC skills, with knowledge of Microsoft products. Excel ability is essential.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Compliance/Risk Management
Compliance/Risk Management Work
- Conduct series of monitoring reviews based on established monitoring program
- Record credit weightings of various business counterparties
- Assist in review of Group KOP's to ensure compliance issues covered
- Assist with review and preparation of RFPs, RFIs and other client information requests
- Assist with maintaining PA Dealing records and quarterly staff responses
- Assist with preparation of SEC Form ADV Part I and Part II updates
- Assist with preparation of Blue Sky filings
- Assist with preparation and review of the firm's ICAAP
- Assist with preparation of amendments to FSA Firms On-Line system records, including
waiver applications, applications for controlled functions/approved persons and other
financial and regulatory returns.
- Assist with identification of material business risks and mitigation procedures
- Assist with development of risk matrix, employee job specifications and systems controls
- Assist with annual insurance review and quarterly insurance notifications
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of Compliance Manual
- Participate in education seminars to increase staff awareness on compliance issues
Compliance Knowledge
- Follow program of reading / seminars, currently expected to be 10-15 days per annum
- Maintain library of compliance issues and periodically update for changes in law
- Stay current with applicable anti-money laundering compliance issues
- Participate in discussions with external legal counsel on compliance issues
Stock Exchange/Regulatory Security Disclosure
- Assist with maintenance of Disclosure KOPs
- Review holdings on a daily basis to determine if aggregated disclosure thresholds are reached
- Assist with preparation of stock exchange/foreign market regulator exemption applications
Legal, Tax and Fund Audit Assistance
- Assist with annual updates to Fund legal documents
- Develop familiarity of US partnership taxation matters and client tax allocations, including
the ability to review Fund partnership tax returns and Schedule K-1s
- Develop familiarity of UK offshore fund taxation matters (distributor status, investment
manager exemptions, Inland Revenue Statements of Practice)
- Assist with tax issues that impact corporate operations, including assessing the
impact of potential restructuring opportunities
- Participate in discussions with external legal counsel on legal and tax issues
It is worth noting that our client provides informal compliance/risk management support to affiliated companies. This may require some involvement with the affiliate companies and/or participation in working groups with the affiliate compliance/legal officers.
Finance, Company Secretary, Office, Personnel and Other
Finance/Financial Reporting Cover
- Act as cover on corporate financial issues which will necessarily entail preparing monthly
management and annual accounts (including the payment of invoices, analysis of
accruals/prepayments, monthly bank reconciliations, filing of financial records, bank
transfers, maintenance of fixed asset register), annual audited financial statements, quarterly
VAT returns, annual UK and USA income tax returns for the Company and its various
subsidiary companies, UK national statistics and other returns
- Act as cover for the preparation of projections of FSA capital adequacy obligations, quarterly
and annual FSA financial returns, FOR calculations, and computation of annual FSA fees.
- Act as cover on company secretary issues which will entail processing stock transfer forms,
preparing minutes of board and shareholder meetings and other related matters.
- Act as cover on office and personnel issues.
