Tax Advisory Assistant Manager

We are currently recruiting for a Tax Advisory Assistant Manager to join Kreston Reeves. The team is based in our Horsham Office in Sussex with some flexibility on working location.

This is a unique opportunity to move away from a compliance brief to a role with an interesting and varied range of tax work focussed on advice and technical expertise, engaging directly with business owners and wealthy individuals to enable their plans to be achieved tax efficiently.

Role Description

As a Tax Advisory Assistant Manager, you will work with the Tax Advisory managers and partners to provide tax advice to a diverse range of clients: both existing clients of the firm and new tax advisory specific clients. The tax advisory team as a whole offer tax advice across a breadth of tax areas with the primary focus being tax planning for owner manager businesses and private individuals. Examples of Tax Advisory projects to be supported could include: Company Reorganisations with HMRC clearances, R&D tax relief claims, Share schemes and EMI option schemes, Inheritance Tax planning, property tax planning and SDLT advice. Your role will include attending client meetings and preparation of tax advice, supporting computations and tax planning reports. You will be involved in more complex tax compliance matters, supporting the client service teams in tax technical issues.

You will take responsibility for completing tasks accurately, to deadline and liaising with clients in line with the Client Charter. You will need to demonstrate initiative and judgement and develop technical expertise and progress against technical competencies.

The objectives of the role

To ensure all clients tax needs are met, working as part of the Tax Advisory team, and ensuring that all client service targets are also met.

Responsibilities

Along with those responsibilities mentioned above your work will include:

  • Draft replies to client or HMRC correspondence, seeking further input as appropriate.
  • Review of more complex tax returns and workings
  • Drafting tax planning reports and modelling tax implications across a range of areas
  • Preparation of complex tax computations, such as Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax.
  • Undertake tax technical research to support tax planning and tax advice to internal teams and external clients.
  • Assist with tax updates for non-tax service lines.
  • Working with clients and other advisers to identify their needs and to propose practical tax efficient solutions

Requirements

  • Qualified ATT or by experience, including accountancy qualification with tax focussed practical experience
  • Team player
  • Driven, self-starter attitude
  • Good communication skills – a good listener as well as strong ability to explain technical matters in an everyday way
  • Flexibility including response to changing client needs and timings
