This is an opportunity to contribute to the community within Wirral by becoming a Trustee and Academy Ambassador at Oak Trees Multi Academy Trust. Board meetings are held at CH63 3HW when safe to do so.

The Academy Ambassadors programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at single-academy and multi-academy trusts (SATs and MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success.

The opportunity

Formed in 2017 by a group of 4 founder schools, Oak Trees Multi Academy Trust has since grown to sponsor a total of 6 primary-age schools all within the Wirral Local Authority, and is still receiving interest from local maintained school. Four of the schools are based in the Bebington area, and although all six are fairly close geographically, they serve a varied community, and varied levels of deprivation. The trust employs 300 staff to support its 2300 learners, and has a budget of approx. £8m.
Five of the trust's schools are all Ofsted rated Good, with the sixth receiving a rating of Outstanding and there strong growth in the trust's reputation in the last few years. The trust aims to continue working on becoming a key strategic leader in the local area.

The board seeks a business leader with board level experience in:

  • Financial Management/Accountability
  • Qualified Accounting/Accountancy Skills

As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 - 24 months:

  • To ensure that the trust has sufficient financial capacity and expertise on the Board, with a focus on succession planning.
  • To continue to perform well in all areas and develop as a trust in the Covid19 era.
  • To maintain stakeholder positivity and engagement during a time of uncertainty and potential growth.

What's involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, 'eyes on, hands off' commitment which at Oak Trees MAT involves attending c. ten board meetings per year, amounting to approx. 4 hours' work per month.

You will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

As an Academy Ambassador, you will join our ambassador network which provides resources, guidance, networking events and webinars to support you in your role.
