Finance Manager

Introduction: Urbanist Network is Vietnam’s only ‘premium publisher’.  Based in HCMC, the company has four Vietnam-focused websites (saigoneer.com, urbanistvietnam.com. kr.saigoneer.com and urbanisthanoi.com) with extensive Vietnamese and international readership. The publications focus on lifestyle content – embracing music, art, eat & drink, history, etc. and are published in Vietnamese, English and Korean languages. The Company has international expansion plans.

Primary objective of the position:

To enhance, implement and manage all financial-related activities for Urbanist Network; including accounting systems and controls, monthly management account preparation, tax calculations and submissions, treasury functions, job pricing analysis, payroll management, and other internal financial controls. To be responsible leading the preparation of the annual budgets in conjunction with the founders and providing effective management reports to the company’s leadership and selected external parties. To develop and manage a Finance Team to satisfy the Company’s evolving business needs and upcoming VC/PE investment round(s). Subject to performance, and opportunity to transition from Finance Manager to CFO would exist over time.

Duties: Attaining the primary objective of this position will involve a number of key tasks/ duties which are carried out from time to time. Duties may vary and this list is not comprehensive or exclusive.

Accounting and Cash-Flow management systems

With guidance and approval from the Founders, audit current financial systems, then propose and implement an effective management accounting system. 

The accounting system adopted should:

• Provide the Founders with detailed, appropriate and effective management accounting reports;

• Effective cash-flow management facilitating careful short-term working capital and long-term cash position planning and reliable forecasting, along with effective treasury management.

Financial Planning & Analysis

The Urbanist Network finance department is a reliable partner for the business operation where valued-added services are provided proactively and/or upon request via periodic finance reports, budgeting, finance analysis, and ad hoc project reports. With these services, the decision-making process is supported by insightful financial information.

Taxation and Accounting

Urbanist Network will implement and maintain a robust internal control system to ensure its operations are in compliance with Urbanist Network internal policies and statutory requirements including the relevant laws and regulation on taxation and accounting.

Represent the Company to Outside Parties Regarding Financial Matters

The Company has well-presented and up-to-date financial information available to share with outside parties such as offshore and onshore banks, lenders, auditors, regulators, and other institutions.  The Finance Manager maintains relationships with senior individuals in the above groups.

Develop and Lead the Finance Department

To employ, train and manage a Finance Team to support the Company’s evolving needs that has the necessary competency, positive attitude, and professionalism and consistently delivers performance that meets or exceeds targets.

Education and skills required:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in finance management, accounting or relevant field.
• Desirable: Post Bachelor’s education
• Excellent communications, persuasion and presentation skills, good at dealing with people at different levels;
• Technically savvy with comprehensive understandings of Vietnamese accounting, tax laws & regulations and their implications in the business context;
• Capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously with good sense of priority;
• Strong leadership skills in leading a professional team; Fluent usage of commonly used office software including Excel, PowerPoint and automation accounting and/or ERP systems;
• Fluent English
• Demanding in terms of reinforcing the importance of honesty, transparency and compliance with statutory requirements and corporate Policies and Procedures;
• Sharp business acumen, strategic thinker but also sensitive to details;
• Knowledge of IFRS;
• General knowledge or ability to learn about Singaporean tax and company standards as it pertains to a holding company.

Professional qualification: ACCA or other relevant qualification

Experience required: At least 5 years finance experience with comprehensive exposure to all or most of the fields including finance accounting, finance planning and analysis and tax.
