Senior Accountant - Customer Funded Programmes

The BAE Systems Maritime Naval Ships business is currently offering exciting finance opportunities based at our Scotstoun site.

The Naval Ships Finance Function strives to provide value adding, fully integrated business support to its project delivery and business support teams. Through the promotion of continuous improvement, it informs business decision making and provides focus on the achievement of financial objectives.

This role will support key MoD/International programmes for Maritime Naval Ships. The design is known as Global Combat Ships (GCS) and we are building 8 vessels for the UK MoD on site in Glasgow but includes design variants for both Australia (9) and Canadian (15) navies which are to be constructed in-country.

The Senior Accountant will assist Finance who will play a key part in both reaching the desired position on day one and then delivering our commitment to quality and budget. This is an exciting hands-on opportunity to gain broad financial and project management experience on our Customer Funded delivery Programmes.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Accountant - Customer Funded Programmes will involve:

  • Providing Project Accounting support, challenge and advice to the Project teams through active engagement in Bids, Project Risk reviews and Contract Reviews
  • Complying with the relevant elements of Naval Ships processes and application of BAE Systems Finance Policies and Financial Controls
  • Assisting Project Managers in the production of robust forecast updates. Completion of all weekly and monthly forecasting as required.
  • Analysing, review, challenge and advise on performance data; ensuring data integrity between the various systems
  • Maintaining and reviewing of the project Contract Status Reports including relevant comments to aid management understanding of movements and variances
  • Your skills and qualifications:

    Essential

  • Full membership of a relevant professional accounting body - CIMA, ACCA or ACA/ICAS is essential
  • Experience gained in a business partnering or project delivery capacity
  • Experience in data analysis and management reporting
  • High level of commercial awareness in a contracting environment
  • Capability and drive to challenge the business in order to maximise financial performance and control risk
  • Desirable

  • Finance experience gained within engineering, manufacturing, ship building or defence environment would be preferred
  • Good understanding of Financial Control
  • Familiarity with MoD contracting and accounting processes
