The Trust is governed by a unitary Board made up of Executive members including our Chief Executive Officer, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer and seven independent Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) including the Chair. The Board is responsible for the governance of the Trust including quality, safety, finance and performance.

Associate Non-Executive Director (2 posts)

National NHS NED rate (£13,000 p.a.) for 3 to 4 days per month

We are recruiting to two newly established Associate Non-Executive roles in the Trust to further enhance the knowledge and expertise on our Board. These developmental roles are an opportunity for candidates who have an interest in working at Board level but, may not yet have sufficient experience to undertake a full Non-Executive role. The role will offer a range of opportunities to the successful candidate including:
  • Experience of operating at Board level
  • Exposure to working in a large complex NHS organisation
  • Ability to transition from Associate to Non- Executive role within the NHS or other organisation/sector
  • Developmental training, support and mentoring from highly experienced NHS leaders
  • Opportunity to champion our local and diverse communities.


As part of the Board you will contribute to the strategic direction, leadership, performance and governance of the organisation whilst actively promoting the Trust values and behaviours. You will participate in regular board and committee meetings and provide independent knowledge and expertise whilst constructively challenging views to support effective decision making. You will demonstrate commitment to the health and wellbeing of the local population and have an understanding of current issues within healthcare.

You will have gained experience in a leadership role within a small/medium or large organisation, demonstrating a good understanding of governance structures and the importance of public accountability and champion standards of public office.

Highly developed communication and influencing skills combined with the ability to engage with the complex issues facing the Trust and the broader health service are essential. Experience gained within an environment complementary to healthcare e.g. community, mental health, voluntary, social care or customer focussed private sector organisation is desirable. An understanding of Workforce and Organisational Development or ICT/Digital Technologies would also be helpful but are not essential.
