In a nutshell

This role is responsible for proactively partnering with the Retail Leadership Team and other Retail Stakeholders, providing insightful analysis, challenge and influence to drive decisions and actions that improve the bottom line. The job holder will leverage the Retail Transformation, Reporting and Channel functions and other Business Partnering teams to create assets required to effectively business partner, focussing on value creation and providing strategic challenge & support to the business area to collectively strengthen performance.

What you need to do

Act as key Finance Business Partner for the Retail Leadership Team and other Retail Stakeholders in interpreting management reporting to provide insight, analysis and commentary to stakeholders and providing challenge to the business

Hold the business to account for P&L performance across Sainsbury's and Argos identifying areas for value creation and building action plans that are put into place

Support the business in identifying risks and opportunities. Take the lead in prioritising these and work with the business to manage them

Complete ad hoc / bespoke analysis for the business area as required to drive improvements and provide decision support

Provide support and input into the Business Performance Review process

Support the design of management reporting, ensuring it is fit for purpose, streamlined and aligns to that prepared for the other Retail channels

Support the Retail Transformation and Reporting team to work with ADA to ensure analytical resource is used effectively and business priorities and resource allocation are well understood and aligned

Support the other Business Partnering teams in producing robust and challenging store budgets

Success in this role will mean supporting the business in making decisions that enhance performance across Sales, Customer Satisfaction, Store Operating Profit and EBIT

Ensures rigour around inputs into planned capital investments and business cases

Provide finance education to Retail stakeholders as required

Stepping up to cover the Senior Finance Manager where needed

Supporting ad hoc projects and various teams as required during busy times such as Budget, Corporate Plan etc.

What you need to know and show

Professionally Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)

Strong commercial acumen with a focus on driving excellent financial and commercial performance

A proven track record of financial control, but also the ability to develop and maintain such an environment

Effective communicator, influencer and challenger with senior stakeholders, including audiences of varying financial and commercial acumen

Strong Excel and numerical skills, with an aptitude for turning data into analysis and insight

High levels of pace, energy and resilience

A self-starter, and a strong team player that can work independently, spotting the areas to focus on and assisting in the decision-making process

Must have a strong eye for detail and a passion for accuracy

Comfortable working with ambiguity and ability to present complex information in a simplified manner

Proven history of effective prioritisation and ability to push back when appropriate

What decisions can I make

Influence direction for the team and provide challenge to the business

Prioritisation of deliverables in line with Business Partner expectations

Creation and implementation of ad hoc management information and insight

Identification of focus areas and challenge of business performance

Directly or indirectly manages

Indirectly supports in the management of the Finance Analysts within the Store Business Partner function as required
