The Health Professional Councils Authority (HPCA) is an executive agency of the NSW Ministry of Health. We play an important role in protecting the health and safety of the public by supporting the 15 NSW Health Professional Councils in managing complaints about NSW health practitioners.
Due to a reorganisation of the finance team, a number of new roles were created. An exciting full-time temporary opportunity currently exists for an experienced, hardworking and dedicated Finance Professional to join the HPCA's Finance team in the role of Senior Financial Accountant.

What you'll be doing
The Senior Financial Accountant provides financial accounting advice and management in the development, implementation and maintenance of financial processes and systems. The role also manages and implements relevant accounting standards, and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of monthly and early close and year-end statutory financial statements for the Councils.

The role is responsible for providing direct support to the Principal, Financial Accounting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Manage the financial accounting function including compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and Treasury requirements.
  • Manage the timely completion of month end reconciliations including bank account, financial accounting transactions, and month end financial processes including accruals (salary and non-salary) and depreciation, ensuring appropriate management controls in month end financial processes.
  • Support the production of month-end and statutory early close and end of year financial statements to a high quality and within the required timeframes.
  • Facilitate the service provision and relationship with internal and external stakeholders, including the Service Centre Westmead in transactional financial services provided by HealthShare NSW.
  • Facilitate and support the external and internal audit processes during the course of the year.
  • Manage cash and treasury function to ensure the accounts payable and receivables operate within the trading terms, and liquidity of the HPCA and NSW Health Professional Councils including analysis and monitoring of cash holdings and receivables.
  • Prepare high quality correspondence, reports, submissions and briefs, narratives, analysis and financial modelling for the Assistant Director and Director.

Essential Requirements:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and eligibility or near eligibility for membership of a recognised professional accounting body such as CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of financial accounting functions and application of accounting standards
  • Experience in preparing month end and year-end financial statements, preferably in a multi-entity environment with cost allocations and in managing an outsourced service provider.
