Are you a part-qualified accountant embarking on a career within finance? Athwal Resourcing is currently exclusively recruiting for an Assistant Group Accountant for a group of companies based in Telford that has expanded both organically and via acquisition. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will be expected to assist with the management accounts and control of the business finances for the UK and international subsidiaries by providing timely and accurate Group financial and management information.

Main Duties for the Assistant Group Accountant will include:
  • Assisting the timely preparation of monthly management accounts - P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reports for Group companies including UK and International subsidiaries;
  • Monthly control and posting of accruals, prepayments and accounting transactions and involved in posting monthly journals as well as balance sheet reconciliations;
  • Ensure intercompany transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled;
  • Assist with inventory control and stock reporting, including Work In Progress;
  • Liaise with Sales and Purchase Ledger functions, ensuring all month-end procedures are operating efficiently and reconcile sales and purchase ledger reserve accounts;
  • Assist with the annual budget and analysis and reporting of variances between actual and forecasts;
  • Manage the company credit card expenses and all employee expenses and ensure all are posted and recorded;
  • Reconcile all statements to the relevant Sage account, investigating and resolving any discrepancies;
  • Any ad hoc reporting and duties which arise as part of the function of the finance team and the Group Financial Controller.

Key Skills and Attributes:
  • Be AAT qualified or studying toward an accountancy qualification with CIMA, ACCA or ACA;
  • Previous hands-on involvement in the management accounts production;
  • Experience within a manufacturing/engineering environment would be an advantage;
  • Experience with Sage or other accounting software package;
  • Be advanced in the use of Excel spreadsheets;
  • Have excellent attention to detail;
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritise own workload;
  • Ability to work in an evolving environment and ability to work to strict deadlines;
  • Good communication skills (both verbally and in writing);
  • High levels of enthusiasm and confidence with a positive team and can-do attitude;
  • Proactive in your approach, comfortable interacting with non-finance colleagues and working on your initiative.
