Finance Manager - Activity Based Costing

Location - Lochside, Edinburgh

In a nutshell

As Finance Manager - Activity Based Costing (ABC) you'll be responsible for the development and production of Sainsburys Bank & Argos Financial Services (SBAFS) costs on a driver-based approach. This will include end to end understanding of SBAFS costs and identification of direct and indirect costs and subsequent drivers. You'll develop business understanding in order to support and challenge operational functions, support change and investment initiatives and support operational excellence across SBAFS.

What you need to do
  • You'll be representing Finance at cost centre meetings and will be responsible for providing financial support and challenge on current and future business performance and plans. Working independently using judgment and subject matter expertise you'll work with the business to shape future performance and strategy. Responsibilities will include month end reviews, KPI analysis, cost patterns, new product development / investment appraisals and preparation of relevant papers.
  • Development of driver-based reporting to aid business understanding.
  • Challenge assumptions through analysis of trends and other MI
  • Co-ordinate and process information from various sources to ensure the delivery of all aspects of the annual planning cycle and regular forecasting processes. In addition, drive the understanding of ongoing risks and opportunities in the product and cost base and how this impacts on the full year out turn projections. Use judgment and expertise to help set challenging yet achievable budgets and forecasts within the context of wider Bank strategy
  • Develop models and best practice to assist the business in measuring impact of changes to the budgeted balance sheet and P&L positions. Working with other finance teams, update and reforecast changes to produce a monthly desktop forecast to support the forecasting and planning processes.
  • Provide cost centre managers with financial information to assist in strategic decision making and any business cases. Review and provide challenge to these business cases/decisions ensuring delivery of financial results set out within the Banks wider strategy.

What you need to know and show
  • A qualified Accountant or QBE with practical experience of financial reporting and management accounting or have strong financial modelling qualifications and commercial experience.
  • Well organised and able to prioritise workload in line with tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure
  • Highly numerate, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail (including excel knowledge).
  • Excellent team player demonstrating strong relationship management skills with an ability to work closely with others to deliver results
  • Customer focused
  • Proven track record of working on own initiative, demonstrating an ability to think and reason logically with the ability to introduce fresh thinking to the role and the wider team.
  • Communication: excellent written communication (business and project reports) and an ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation , e.g. able to translate complex / technical issues to meet the audience's competency level
