The Expense Insight Center Senior Manager provides subject matter knowledge in the assigned area of Financial Planning & Analysis, develops a thorough understanding of State Street’s business practices to effectively perform independent, complex reporting or analytics to support the ad-hoc needs of the Expense Insight Center and Business Unit (BU) Lead Financial Officer/s (LFO).  Reporting to the Vice President of the Compensation sub-group within the Insight Center, the Senior Manager will oversee a team of analysts performing a multitude of activities associated with expense analytics and reporting.

Responsibilities & Tasks Include:

Deliverables focused on Compensation expenses including Headcount, Salary, Benefits and Contract Serices and typically relate to:

  • Variance and ad-hoc analysis during month/quarter/year-end closing and forecast
  • Financial modeling, data collection and input for Budget and Forecast processes
  • Conduct monthly reviews with LFOs and other stakeholders
  • Build multi-dimensional (business, region, country) processes and analytics using multiple data sources
  • Expense reviews and Expense Walks including variance explanations
  • Headcount Walks – research, analysis and reporting on headcount movement pertaining to New Business, Hires, Transfers & Exits etc. with associated salary/benefit impact
  • Workday Headcount reporting and analysis
  • Variance analysis along with preparation of management presentations describing insights
  • Participate in process improvement efforts to streamline the development of forecasts/plans and other Finance related activities
  • Self-review of reporting & analytics deliverables for first pass accuracy and presenting analytical results, findings as needed
  • Communicate with lead finance officers, accounting team and other stakeholders to accomplish necessary tasks.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on compensation expenses and processes.
  • Manage and oversee a team of analysts

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface with audiences at various levels of seniority
    • Ability to execute and drive results
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Visio), advanced levels of excel (pivot tables, formulas, excel workbook maintenance best practices)
    • Knowledge of Hyperion Essbase and Hyperion Planning a plus
    • Knowledge of Tableau data analytics and visualization (or similar) a plus
    • Self-motivated, self-assured, and self-managed
    • Results oriented ownership mindset
    • Ability to analyze and summarize complex financial matters and their impact to the bank
    • Ability to multi-task and work under high pressure deadlines
    • Demonstrated problem solving skills
    • Ability to identify, define and execute process improvement opportunities

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor’s and 8 – 10  years relevant experience or Master’s and min 5 – 8 years ideally covering multiple of the following:

    • Financial Planning & Analysis in a global setting
    • Direct support to business or senior finance leadership
    • Experience with preparation and review of budgets for multi-national companies
    • Multi-dimensional (business, product, client)
    • Project experience
    • Variance analysis and reporting of insights
    • Financial modelling
