Main Purpose
We are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team based at our Head Office site in Doncaster to support our Operations Business Unit.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for the monthly production of management account reports for overheads, to maintain cost control throughout the business, and ensuring that the Rail business is delivering acceptable returns on its Supply Chain contracts. You will liaise with cost center owners on monthly performance and understand reasons for any over-spend and support overhead budgeting and forecasting in line with planned timetable. You will also be responsible for interfacing with Inventory/Procurement teams on understanding drivers of stock and partner on cost reduction initiatives.

Main Responsibilities:

FINANCIAL REPORTING and COST CONTROL
  • Responsible for overhead reporting for the Rail business unit and the subsequent correction of off-target areas by working with the relevant budget holder
  • Supporting the creation of Corporate Planning, Forecasting and Budgeting process in relation to costs and overheads to support the targeted sales
  • Preparing the accounts for Supply Chain contracts and Financial support to ensure contracts are returning profit targets
  • Liaising with Procurement teams to maintain tracker of Cost Reduction initiatives
  • Financial lead within aspects of Inventory reporting and represent the function in material forecasting and planning meeting, and review slow moving items
  • Analysis of month end results highlighting key variances and commentary.

PROJECT SUPPORT
  • Supporting large supply chain bids which are significantly impacted by the level of resource and cost of the operations team to deliver them
  • Ensure key business process improvement projects are on time, cost and delivering the benefits expected once introduced
  • Requirement to take the lead on ad-hoc problems and to be able to take on cost improvement projects.

Essential criteria:
  • Ideally degree qualified (or equivalent experience gained working in a Financial Accountancy role)
  • Recently qualified or working towards a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Financial and commercial awareness
  • Strong analytical skills with an understanding of how to build effective reporting structures that enables budget holders to clearly understand their costs and drive business improvement
  • An ability to influence the senior budget holders to drive the right performance and behaviours.
  • Strong fiduciary responsibility as well as high level of confidentiality
  • Highly IT literate with experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Familiarity working with MRP systems, ideally SAP
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to negotiate with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Positive, Pro-active and self-sufficient attitude
  • Reporting writing
