An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Capital Finance team as Assistant Capital Accountant at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The individual will contribute to the provision of financial advice and planning support across the Trust's £40m+ pa capital programme, whilst delivering management accounting support to the Directorates of Estates & Informatics.

Main duties of the job

To support the Capital Accountant in preparing and reconciling financial management information on the Trust's capital programme to allow timely and accurate monitoring of expenditure, income and cash flow. To develop and lead the process of ensuring the correct split of expenditure between capital and revenue is applied.

To prepare information regarding capital purchases and disposals and support the processes underpinning the operation and maintenance of the Trust's Asset Register. To support the annual asset verification reviews of the Trust Asset Register, in conjunction with other directorate to ensure its accuracy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Provide regular and ad-hoc financial analyses of Capital Programme scheme expenditure incurred by the Trust to support the preparation and monitoring of the Capital Programme.
  • Undertake ad-hoc project work/investigation work into specific Capital schemes, as requested by the Capital Accountant and/or Senior Assistant Capital Accountant.
  • Assist the Senior Assistant Capital Accountant in ensuring all capital income recovery is made in a timely manner, ensuring expenditure on donated schemes is appropriately analysed and recorded.
  • Provide information on Capital Budgets within the Capital Programme to Capital Budget Holders, Capital Finance Team managers and Estates/IT managers.
  • Develop a working knowledge of VAT issues in relation to all capital schemes, obtaining advice, training and updates from the Trust's Taxation Manager or senior Capital Finance team colleagues. Lead the preparation of VAT analysis files for distribution to the Capital Accountant and Trust VAT advisors as required.
  • Support the Capital and Investment Finance Manager in managing the annual IT non-recurrent revenue envelope, providing analyses and reconciliations as required.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE including Maths and English at Grade C or above and 2 A Levels and AAT qualified or equivalent demonstrable qualification


Desirable criteria
  • Honours Degree
  • European Computer Driving Licence or similar


Experience
Essential criteria
  • Sufficient recent and relevant experience, including Capital Accounting experience
  • Demonstrably good IT skills including Excel Advanced level as regular user


Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in NHS Finance in an Acute Hospital
  • Access Database skillsDemonstrably good IT skills including Excel Advanced level as regular user.
  • Experience of Integrated ledger systems
