Position: Financial Controller
Location: Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire
Salary: £38,000 - £45,000 (Dependent on Experience) + Benefits Portal & Pension

The Financial Controller Role:
We are looking for a competent qualified or QEB, Financial Controller with experience in a private business environment. You will be required to manage a small Finance & Purchasing team for a Telecoms business, as well as a small Property Investment portfolio and associated trading interests of the Directors.

This is a really involved, varied and hands on position, where you will become a responsible and valued part of the management team. Reporting directly to the Managing Director and having responsibility for all accounting functions, maintaining current procedures and working with the Finance Team and wider operational personnel, to ensure efficiencies. With the freedom to implement your ideas for continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monthly management accounts including P&L, Balance Sheet and all journal adjustments
  • Relevant financial analysis & commentary of performance
  • Quarterly VAT returns & Tax Compliance
  • Cash management/cash-flow forecasting
  • Production of Monthly Salaries, including sales commissions (an external payroll company is used), and ensuring prompt payment of PAYE/NI each month
  • Full running of the Finance & Purchasing Team
  • Management of debt with the help of the Finance Assistant
  • Margin and cost analysis and active involvement in the sales process from a commercial perspective
  • Working with the external accountants to ensure that all accounting information is delivered to them on a timely basis and ensuring that all statutory returns and corporation tax are completed and paid on time
Skills & Experience Required:
  • Experience in managing a small Finance team
  • Good Excel skills are essential (VLOOKUP’s, pivots, macros)
  • Experience in Sage 50 is desirable
  • Experience of working in a Corporate and SME environment
  • Flexible and cooperative attitude
  • Good IT experience a benefit
  • Possess a hands on attitude; this role will require some transactional processing work as well as more managerial and advanced accountancy work
