The role will include regularly travelling to client premises therefore it would be beneficial to hold a full driving licence and have your own transport.

Full time 37.5 hours Monday to Friday

An exciting opportunity has become available to join our friendly, award winning client in York.We would like to speak to experienced AAT qualified Bookkeepers with experience of preparing both management and year end accounts within an Accounts Practice.

The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on client service, working to deadlines and have a good attention to detail. You will be required to work to time budgets and communicate directly with clients, as well as with the client manager internally.

The Role -

Interpreting, verifying and processing the information provided by clients

Processing transactions including:

- Purchase ledger

- Sales ledger

- Nominal ledger

- Payroll journals

- Bank posting and reconciliations

- Credit cards

- Petty cash

Reconciliation of:

- Bank accounts

- Credit cards

- PAYE/NIC and wages

- Petty cash


Calculation and posting of:

- Depreciation from asset registers

- Accruals

- Prepayments and accrued income
Preparation of VAT returns for submission to HMR&C
Preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts
Preparation of year end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and small limited companies
Completion of tax computations for year-end accounts preparation assignments
Person Specification


GCSE Maths and English, minimum C grade (or equivalent)

Full AAT qualification or equivalent

Key Skills:

  • Experience of working within an Accounts Practice
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of VAT, including different VAT schemes
  • Microsoft Office - Excel, Outlook, Word
  • Ability to work as part of a team and alone
  • Ability to work to deadlines and budgets
  • Knowledge of major accounting software packages including Sage, Xero, Quickbooks
  • Experience of management and annual accounts preparation
