The opportunity

To manage multiple engagements whilst providing support and encouragement to your team/s and reporting directly to the director/Partner. The role requires commitment, as you’ll be expected to deliver on a variety of challenging audit engagements in the Financial Services industry, but also contribute to the wider goals of the firm, by coaching your team/s and seeking out business development opportunities, whilst working on your personal development and achieving your own career goals. You will play a vital for in helping us Build a Better Working World for the future of assurance.

Your key responsibilities

Your responsibilities will be split across two areas; your clients and your people/teams:

Client responsibilities:

  • Translate the planned audit strategy into effect audit procedures with input from your team, whilst providing explanations as to why you have opted for your strategic decisions.
  • Manage and deliver the allocated audit area(s) on your clients, with the support of your team.
  • To develop and maintain a portfolio of clients and advise on strategy of the audit procedure, delegating areas of the engagement to your team/s.
  • Take time to build and develop a relationship with your client/s, understanding their needs and any potential concerns, establishing yourself as a trusted business advisor.
  • Use in-depth knowledge of the client (and from prior years) to anticipate and address any potential issues.
  • Identify areas of risk within clients’ businesses, defining the appropriate audit approach and know when to refer upwards.
  • Be proactive in your approach to business development, winning work by understanding your existing clients needs and targeting new audit and non-audit clients for other areas of the business.
  • Establish a strong network internally and externally, demonstrating the EY values at all times.

People responsibilities:

  • Be a proactive leader of your team/s, ensuring team members are well managed, motivated and satisfied that their needs are being met, for example up to date with their training and development, receiving regular feedback.
  • Portray a clear sense of vision and direction, promoting the firm’s values.
  • Create a high-performance culture in your team/s, taking pride and producing high quality work and delivering on the clients’ needs, with high engagement levels internally.
  • Recognise and align your personal motivation and inspiration with our strategy.
  • Counsel and assist your team/s with their personal development, providing guidance about how to reach their next career goals and ambitions.
  • Identify and drive forward initiatives that you recognise have made a difference in teams/cultures, whether it be internally or externally.
  • Ensure you take responsibility for providing your team/s and feedback requesters with timely and honest feedback.

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • Professionally recognised charted/certified accountant qualification (ACA, ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, CA or equivalent international qualification)
  • Recent external audit experience, with financial services expertise

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience with a Big 4 firm
  • Project and financial management skills
  • Experience working on audits for US GAAP and IFRS reporting listed clients
  • Experience of both ISA and US GAAS / PCAOB auditing frameworks
  • Team and leadership skills
  • Understanding of controls and experience of control-based audits
