At the Co-op, we're passionate about helping our customers to get their hands on the products they love. And that starts by making sure we've got great stores in great locations across the UK. We're creating a store network that's fit for the future, and the finance and accounting team has an important role to play in driving our growth by making sure we get great value from what we invest. Now we need to recruit a talented accountant to help improve our processes and support financial decisions. If you can bring us the ambition and amazing attention to detail we need, we can offer you the chance to build a career with a business that always puts people at the heart of its strategy.

As one of our estates accountants, you'll be responsible for producing management accounts, and take control of the planning and reporting for our Facilities Management function within Estates and store related costs. We'll look to you to build solid and meaningful relationships as you'll have exposure to some of our most senior leaders and the food exec team. You'll also support the delivery of process improvements that'll help us realise more efficiencies and saving costs.

What you'll do

  • manage the planning and reporting for store property costs c£320m
  • assist with accounting and reporting for the property onerous lease provision
  • responsible for accounting for Facilities Management capital budget
  • business partner with key stakeholders, plan and report on food property costs

To be successful as an estates accountant, you'll either be working towards obtaining or already have a recognised financial qualification, with the determination and ambition to help drive the strategic direction of our business. Ideally, you'll have experience from a similar role in retail or comparable dynamic and complex business like ours. More importantly, have the ability to build successful relationships with partners and senior leaders across the business and wider network. And if you can expertly manage the ambiguity and complexity that comes with large scale retail change, you'll have a fantastic opportunity to thrive in our fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

What you'll bring
  • ability to juggle multiple conflicting priorities, working to tight deadlines
  • evidence of accountancy part-qualification, or recently fully qualified (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
  • experience of producing management accounts
  • advance excel skills (you'll be using macros and modelling etc.)
  • confidence and strong communication skills at all levels
  • discretion when dealing with multiple sensitive documents

We want to change the world all over again. If you believe in our purpose, and you're keen to progress your career with a business that's different to all the rest, then join us. And help us rebuild an iconic British brand.
