A global investment bank currently requires a French-speaking Financial Accountant to join them on a permanent basis in their central London office. You will provide assistance to the group financial reporting and consolidation team. This comprises four experienced accounting professionals, whose primary responsibility is quarterly, half yearly and annual external financial reporting for a French-listed/ regulated financial services group.

Regular reporting
  • Assist with drafting, editing, reviewing and proof-reading the Group Finance team's publications in French. Text is usually prepared in English, so translation to French is important.
  • Produce working papers to support the production of consolidated financial statements and the linked reports for the Board pack (including notes and appendices). These are produced based on FAST modelling principles, to reduce errors, and aid review and common working.
  • Collect and consolidate 'audit trails' (Excel documents that collect extra information from selected subsidiaries about their consolidation packages).
  • For specified notes, prepare financial accounts data and analysis, including obtaining an understanding of the data and movements.
  • Assist team with maintaining a working copy of the Group accounts in excel - and build appropriate controls to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Form a good working relationship with key accountants in the Group, especially francophone ones, and assist/ develop underperforming ones. This may involve travel.
  • Assist accountants around the world with the Group's share schemes, including maintaining models to help them calculate correct accounting entries.
  • Assist with other matters as required, including the Group Finance projects.

Other challenges
  • Undertake detailed technical analysis when required, for example on French reporting requirements from the AMF, ANC and benchmarked competitors.

Ongoing development
  • Proactively identifying process improvements and solutions, for example to improve the efficiency of the audit trails procedure.
  • Undertake detailed technical analysis when required, producing high quality papers to share with the Group team and other key clients of Group Finance (eg for changes to accounting standards, or new activities for which the accounting has not previously been researched).


Requirements

  • Strong academics: Programme grande école or equivalent
  • Major in accounting/ audit or experience as an auditor is desirable
  • Ability to write and edit native-level French to the level where it can be published in the Group's annual report
  • Business-level English, spoken and written
  • Experience of modelling in Excel or a curiosity to learn it
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly for preparing public documents
  • A can-do attitude
